More people need to know about this plant!

Literally if everyone who had even the tiniest of gardens had one of these plants in it they would never need to buy kale again and come on. Let’s admit it. There’s no way you could even buy kale to this level of nutrition in any supermarket out there so help spread the word and get planting perennial tree kale, also known as Taunton Dean!

Introducing: The Warren

A long-standing Coaltown partner, @warrenmanselst is back for a new chapter, with a renewed focus on good food, community and bringing people together.

From Thursday volunteering days to the new Warren Food Collective, there’s plenty happening at 11 Mansel Street. The restaurant is also open all weekend! We popped down to catch up with the team, with Alysha giving their team a coffee refresh and hearing more about what’s next.

FOCACCIA PIZZATAS AT THE WARREN 🍕

We’re on a mission to find something that The Warren can become known for, and we think we might be onto something here.

First things first: pizzatas are, quite simply, loaded focaccias. And when your kitchen lead, Tracy, makes focaccia this good, it feels only right to make it the star of the show.

After two weeks of really useful feedback from our customers, we’ve decided to replace our loaded flatbreads with something new: focaccia pizzatas. We’ll be trialling different toppings over the coming weeks, finding out what you love most and making the most of the brilliant ingredients we have right here in our local area.

First up, meet THE HERITAGE

A celebration of brilliant local produce, built on Tracy’s homemade focaccia and topped with:

🐖 Local pork from Owen and Tania at Myrddin Heritage
🧀 Cheese from the Calon Wen cooperative
🍎 Foraged apples
🌿 Fennel
🍅 Our homemade tomato sauce
🫒 Extra virgin olive oil from Honest Toil
🌱 Our house-made tamari seeds for that all-important crunch

Good bread. Brilliant ingredients. A kitchen that cares about what goes on your plate.

We’re keeping things seasonal, working with our local producers and having a bit of fun along the way.

But now we want to hear from you.

Could focaccia pizzatas become a Warren thing? What toppings would you love to see? Think local cheeses, seasonal vegetables, brilliant Welsh meat and foraged ingredients. We’re open to ideas!

We’ve had some lovely things arriving in the kitchen! Fresh pork from Tanya and Owen, venison from Andrew, and a huge delivery of organic vegetables from Peter, Anne and Alistair at Blaencamel Farm. Plenty of good things to get cooking with! @myrddinheritage @blaencamelfarm @towyvalleyfishandgame57

We’ve also listened to your feedback and, after all the love for our homemade focaccia, we’re swapping our flatbreads for focaccia instead. Plus, we’ve given our chocolate truffle dessert a little twist with some delicious Honest Toil olive oil. @honest_toil @hbingredients

🍷 Our wine of the season is now a white from Hebron Vineyards, ready for this weekend. @hebronvineyard

🎄 Our Christmas menu has had a brilliant response, so thank you to everyone who’s booked already. We’re only open for three services a week at the moment, so spaces are limited. If you’re thinking of joining us, now’s the time to book!

🍇 Jack and I headed to London this week to meet some fantastic wine producers, and we’re now looking for a Wine Lead to help us develop our wine offering. Fancy getting involved? Get in touch! @lescavesdepyrene @kwamejackmartin

🎄 Christmas at The Warren

There’s something really lovely about putting this menu together.

After a year away, we’re incredibly excited to be bringing Christmas back to The Warren, and to welcome people into this space again.

We’re especially proud that so much of what’s on the menu comes from people and farms we know and love. Blaencamel Farm, Myrddin Heritage, Postance Farm, Bwyd Sir Gar, Caws Teifi and so many others who help us put good food on the table throughout the year.

It feels very Warren to be cooking Christmas dinner this way. Simple, generous food, made with brilliant local ingredients, and a real connection to the people who produce them.

And, honestly, we’re just really excited to have the lights on, the tables full and the restaurant feeling alive again.

We can’t wait to welcome you in. ❤️
