On July 4, 2026, we celebrated Tatay's 80th birthday with his nearest and dearest-a gathering of family by blood and by heart. At the end of the night, my father delivered this message. True to form, his speech was witty, sardonic and delivered with quiet panache (A contradiction, I know . But trust me, if you listen to him, you'd agree.)

Most surprisingly, in his message, he honored his mother (my lola) and my Nanay. The former sacrificed so he could have a better chance in life. The latter brought him back to his faith. In both cases, love was the WHY of it all.

Sharing a video of his message here (the ending got cut though) that I may always remember what love truly means and how inspiring Tatay will always be.

I will always be a Tatay's girl.

Dear Dada,

Yesterday, you reached the oak milestone of 80 years old (With still a full head of grey hair, unlike men younger than you, as you like to point out).. And as you said, last night, this week you start processing for your age-based government cash incentive. 🤣🤣 Yes, your humor remains in that sardonic tone that I like so much.

Listening to you last night as you regaled us with your warm and incredibly inspiring and witty message, I felt a surge of pride. One, because I know for a FACT that your speech had no iota of Chatgpt whatsoever. 🤣 You always write so well and you have always been an engaging public speaker. Two, to have you as my role model and a hero, I feel so blessed to be your daughter.

As you transition into permanent retirement, know that I will be there, your doting, overly protective child who will monitor you like a hawk and call you several times a day and barge into your bedroom to plop on your bed and scrape my feet on your bedsheets and nag you about your medicines. 🤣 You yourself said that I am more strict than Nanay. Well, I should be because I am after all, my mother's daughter. 🤪🤪😉

But seriously, Tay, I pray that you get to enjoy life more vividly, fully embracing the good fruits of your labor. If there is one person who deserves all the goodness and graces in this world, it is you.

Happy Fathers' Day!

One of the things that Dyl and I have in common is that we call our parents Tatay and Nanay. When we got married, there was a conscious decision from both of us to call the other's parents another term since we felt we only had 1 special set of Tatay and Nanay each. So, Dyl's parents became Mama and Papa to me while my parents became Dyl's Daddy and Mommy.

Yesterday, we celebrated Father's Day early with my Tatay and Papa with Mama and Dyl's Daddy and Tatay with Nanay.😊

It's not often we get to celebrate both our fathers on their special day but we'll take every chance we get.

Papa, thank you always for the kindness and support to Dyl and I. Thank you that you and Mama raised a pretty decent human being who has a good heart. I see how much you love Dyl and Mama and it warms my heart to know my papa is a good man.

Tay, my one and only Dada, you are my hero. Thank you for all that you are and for being the standard Dyl and I look up to. Everyday, I strive to be just even half of the person that you are. Everyday, I strive to give back to you all the luxuries that you deserve that go beyond just sinigang.

Ending this post with something my Tatay said and I paraphrase: "We must also thank mothers, who without them, we would never be fathers." 😊😄

A belated note of gratitude to the 12th Kuris International Theater Festival for the invitation to serve as a panelist for "Beyond the Fourth Wall: Integrating Theatrical Methods into Public Life", representing ILOMOCA.

It was a deeply enriching conversation shared alongside fellow thespians who may have stepped beyond the literal stage, yet continue to embody the gifts of theater in the worlds they now inhabit. From the spaces of an art museum, to the corridors of a hospital, to the offices of a municipal hall, to the care for abused children — the discipline of theater endures in ways both visible and profound.

The importance of theater arts can never be overstated, for there is perhaps no other discipline that asks so much of the human spirit while, in return, giving just as generously to those willing to receive its lessons. It teaches one in the truest sense, to be fully human.

Debated whether to post this because I was in such bad shape. But here goes...

I used to take dance classes alot. Dance was one of my first loves, alongside theater. Jazz was my favorite.

But life and work lately have not been giving me the time or headspace to do the things I love.

After three long years and several pounds heavier, I finally got the time to take a dance class. I had forgotten how much I loved to move and how much joy dancing gave me. Call me dramatic but it made me emotional.

I may not be as fit or spry as before, but I am posting this anyway to celebrate me because I finally decided to do something I love, for once. .

I know that girl I used to be is still inside me. The one who loves to move and be free. She just needs time.

I hope I get her back. by @warriorprincess525
