🚒 10 Years of Service and Looking Brand New! 🚒

After 10 years of dedicated service and over 1,200 calls answered with very little downtime, even the toughest equipment deserves a little TLC!

Squad 505 recently took a well-deserved break from duty for approximately 60 days to undergo some much-needed refurbishment. From repairing a decade’s worth of emergency calls, dings and scratches to deep cleaning, preventative maintenance, and general repairs, our squad received the attention it deserves.

Now, Squad 505 is back home, looking as good as new and ready to serve our community for another 10 years!

Keeping our apparatus in top condition is an important part of ensuring we’re always ready when our community needs us most.

🚒 Here’s to another decade of service, Squad 505!

🚒🚑 Fire Prevention Week 2026! 🔥

What a great night at Old Trail celebrating Fire Prevention Week alongside our brothers and sisters from Albemarle County Fire Rescue and the Crozet Volunteer Fire Department last night!

We always enjoy opportunities to come together with our fellow first responders, connect with the community, and promote the importance of fire prevention and safety.

Thank you to everyone who came out to visit, meet our crews, and learn more about the emergency services that help keep our community safe!

We’re proud to serve alongside such dedicated firefighters and first responders who share our commitment to protecting and serving our neighbors.

Yesterday, members of Western Albemarle Rescue Squad took on the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Challenge at Scott Stadium, climbing in honor of the 343 firefighters, 60 law enforcement officers, and 8 EMS providers who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

Each step was a reminder of the courage and selflessness shown that morning—and of the first responders who climbed toward danger while helping others to safety.

25 years later, we remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Proud of our WARS members for taking the time to honor those who gave everything.

Today, we pause to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost 25 years ago on September 11, 2001, and to honor the extraordinary courage and sacrifice shown in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

We remember the firefighters, EMS providers, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, military members, healthcare workers, and countless ordinary citizens who ran toward danger to help others. We remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, those who answered the call in the days and months that followed, and the families who continue to carry their loss.

Twenty-five years later, we also remember the unity that followed—a nation coming together, neighbors helping neighbors, and communities standing as one.

May we never forget those we lost. May we always honor those who served. And may we carry forward the spirit of service, courage, and unity that defined that day.

🇺🇸 September 11, 2001 — Never Forget.

🇺🇸 Service Runs in the Family 🚑

This Labor Day, we’re proud to recognize all those who give their time and talents in service to others—including our own WARS volunteers.

Pictured here is one of our father-and-son volunteer duos, Brett and Logan. The Henyon duo represent two generations of service to our community. While many are enjoying the holiday weekend, WARS volunteers continue to answer the call, just as they do every day of the year.

There’s something special about seeing a commitment to serving others passed from one generation to the next. 💜

From our WARS family to yours, Happy Labor Day!

All Volunteer. All The Time.

WARS is proud to have an all-women crew out this morning supporting the Charlottesville Women’s Four Miler! 🏃‍♀️🚑

It was a great morning watching so many incredible women come together to run, support one another, and take on the Four Miler. We were honored to be there helping keep the runners, volunteers, and spectators safe along the way.

Congratulations to everyone who crossed the finish line today! And a special shoutout to our WARS women who spent their morning serving the community and cheering you on! 💪💜

Today, August 15, our EMS providers will be participating in a high-fidelity training exercise involving simulated emergency calls at various locations throughout the Crozet community.

As part of the training, our crews will respond to simulated patients and provide emergency care just as they would during an actual call. Because of this, you may notice an increased presence of emergency vehicles in and around Crozet throughout the day. Only true emergencies will have their lights and sirens activated.

Thanks to the generosity of several community members, some of these training scenarios will take place at private residences. While emergency vehicles and crews are present, we kindly ask that you do not approach the training scenes and respect the privacy and property of the participating community members.

Please know that these are planned training exercises designed to help our providers continue sharpening their skills and preparing for real-world emergencies.

If you have any immediate questions or concerns, please contact our station at 434-823-5103.

Thank you for your understanding and for supporting our continued training! by @warsrescue5

🚨 Something new is on the horizon… 👀

Since 2014, our primary Advanced Life Support (ALS) quick response vehicle has been the first unit out the door, car 508. Primarily staffed by the on-duty medic, car 508 has responded to countless medical emergencies, assisting our ambulances, and serving the Western Albemarle communities day and night.

While our ambulances rotate in and out of frontline service every few weeks to allow for preventative maintenance, repairs, and a well-earned “rest,” this dedicated ALS vehicle has been the one constant. After more than a decade of answering the call first, it’s finally time for it to take a break, too.

A new primary ALS response vehicle is being outfitted to hit the road, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

Stay tuned over the coming weeks for the full reveal… we think you’re going to love its new look. 👀🚑 See the new vs old in the pictures. More to come soon!

Same dedication. Same volunteers. New ride.

Today, we celebrate National Paramedics Day and recognize the dedicated intermediates and paramedics who answer the call when our community needs them most.

Whether responding to life-threatening emergencies, providing advanced medical care, supporting our local events, or caring for patients in their most vulnerable moments, medics make a lasting difference every single day (so do all of our members 😉).

At the Western Albemarle Rescue Squad, we’re especially proud of our volunteer medics who freely give their time, knowledge, and compassion to serve our community. Their commitment to excellence, professionalism, and patient care reflects the very best of what it means to serve.

To all intermediates and paramedics—past and present—thank you for your dedication, sacrifice, and the countless lives you’ve impacted. We are grateful for everything you do.

Happy National Paramedics Day!

🇺🇸☀️ Happy Independence Day & Happy 250th Birthday, America! ☀️🇺🇸

As we celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday with family, friends, cookouts, and fireworks, the Western Albemarle Rescue Squad wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable Independence Day!

With temperatures expected to be very hot, please take a few simple precautions to stay safe:
💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day—even if you don’t feel thirsty.
🧢 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and a hat when outdoors.
🌳 Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
🧴 Apply sunscreen regularly to help prevent sunburn.
🍺 Limit alcohol intake and alternate with water to stay hydrated.
👶🐶 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.
❤️ Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to the heat.
🚑 Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If someone becomes confused, loses consciousness, or has hot, dry skin, call 911 immediately.

Our crews will be proudly staffed at King Family Vineyards throughout the celebration and fireworks, ready to respond if needed. We hope to see everyone out enjoying this historic milestone, but your safety always comes first. If the heat becomes too much or you’re not feeling well, it’s okay to stay home and celebrate safely.

From all of us at the Western Albemarle Rescue Squad, thank you for your continued support. Have a safe, fun, and memorable Fourth of July as we celebrate 250 years of American independence! 🇺🇸🎆
