On Friday August 29th, 2025 Ka’sala returned to Comox after 3 years and 13 days abroad. She sailed us down the west coast to Mexico, up the Sea of Cortez, over to mainland Mexico as far south as Barra Navidad, back up the Sea of Cortez and then over to Hawaii, then Alaska, then back down the west coast to Comox. We put in a lot of hard work and money into her to make this trip happen, not to mention how well loved she was previously to us. But we can’t understate how sea worthy and incredible of a sailing vessel Ka’sala is. She’s small but mighty and may even have the most sea miles for her make. She’s done multiple Pacific loops in the past, as well as going through the Panama Canal and up the East Coast of America. We have no plans of selling or retiring her at any time, but she is going to get a whole lot of TLC these next few years here at the Comox Valley Marina. We’re planning to do lots of local weekend sailing with trips around Vancouver Island and then eventually back up to Haida Gwaii and Alaska in the next year or two. Thank you to everyone who helped make this dream possible through your love and support. A big shout out to all the incredible friends we made along the way, including @sailingdetour for this drone footage and a special shoutout to one of Ka’sala’s previous owners; Doug 🤍 Thank you Doug & Lyneita for entrusting us with Ka’sala, believing in us and mentoring us throughout the entire journey… and for being there with open arms at the home base 🤗

20 pics to encapsulate our time on the big island of Hawai’i 🌺🌿🏝️
After 23 days at sea we anchored at Hilo for 2 weeks and had the most incredible time exploring the big island. The locals of Hilo are so welcoming, couldn’t have dreamt of a better start to this leg of the trip (we were nervous about coming to the USA but that dissolved day 1). We spent most of the time getting our legs back by walking the lush & fragrant tropical rain forests and parks. Checked out the botanical gardens and volcano with our friends Rod & Shelly on sv Tasi, definite highlights getting to spend quality time with them. We drove around the whole island (thank you Rhonda for the car& place to stay), saw countless turtles, swam in crystal clear water outside of Kona, as well as in rivers next to waterfalls. Drank soooo much island crafted beer and coffee, and ate a lot of yummy fish dishes. We got to meet/ hang out with most of the other sailors who crossed around the same time as us and hear all about each others experiences at sea. We love this community and we love the aloha spirit of Hawai’i!!
