Barely awake on the train home from London, Chelsea blues already setting in! I’ll keep it brief but this is a post to thank all of the designers, landscape teams, planting teams and fellow specialists for letting us help make the wonderful pieces of art that are the Chelsea Flower Show garden exhibits this year. Swipe along to see a few snippets of the watery gems that have emerged - there’s more so we’ll be making a more in depth and coherent post in the near future to cover some of the interesting work we’ve been doing and some little details too. One thing I must say is that Chelsea has a unique way of bonding like minded individuals who are striving to create the very best they can. It’s astonishing to see first hand what camaraderie, information sharing, graft and team work can produce - it’s quite special. How great it is too to catch up with industry friends…

Congratulations to all of the designers we worked with this year @careygardendesignstudio @catherinemacdonalddesign @harryholdingstudio @ashleighaylett @tomstuartsmithstudio @patrick_clarke_landscapes @robhardygardens @darrenhawkeslandscapes @alexandra.noble

Thanks to the construction teams too

@lalandscapes @theoutdoorroom @yorelanddesign @peter_gregory_landscapes @gadd_brothers @collinsonslandscaping @c_j_landscapes @garden_build @crocus.co.uk

My thanks to our team - Steve, Tom, Wayne, Connor - who did not miss a beat. 5 people, 9 gardens. Always smiling, nothing a problem, grafters, cool and calm heads - and fun to work with. And the rest of the team at WA who managed the business and projects outside of Chelsea, it wouldn’t have worked without you - full of pride.

Too many other individuals to mention….

This timelapse footage demonstrates the effect Water Artisans achieved for Joe and Laura Carey on their @addleshawgoddard Freedom to Flourish garden at Chelsea this year. Did you see it? They set us a challenge (which we love) and the result was superb! We collaborated with main contractor (and all round great team) @theoutdoorroom to build the watery bit. Laura headed up the planting - the garden won gold, best construction and best small garden! Hats off to @careygardendesignstudio and all involved.

One peaceful corner of the reflective pool at the heart of The Eden Project Bring Me Sunshine Garden at @the_rhs Chelsea this year, designed by @harryholdingstudio and @michaelisboyd for @edenprojectcornwall, with @lalandscapes leading the build. This calm, mirrored pool was designed to harvest rainwater. It also reflected the sky like a mirror and provided great habitat for wildlife. Here is the decorative water spout in test (an exciting bit for a Water Artisan!)

The garden won a Silver-Gilt medal and the RHS Environmental Innovation Award, and has since made its way north to Morecambe, where it will open as a free public garden and the first piece of Eden Project Morecambe 🌿

People usually notice the difference within seconds of getting in.

A natural pool holds its clarity through biology, so the water that closes over you is simply water, soft and silky against the skin, cleaned by the biological filters it flows through.

It carries the temperature of the season and stays alive through every one of them, a bracing swim in spring, warm and inviting by high summer, a still and beautiful reflecting pool in the depths of winter (and a bracing dip for those that do!).

Swimmers describe it as closer to a lake than a pool. And that’s exactly what it is!

📢 New partnership announcement! 📢

We are delighted to be partnering with @waterartisans 🎉

Based near Dorchester, Water Artisans is a small business specialising in the design, construction and care of natural swimming pools, ponds, water features and landscapes. Their specialist team have helped to create over 50 Chelsea Flower Show gardens, and every bespoke water feature and landscape is designed and built with care, with their chemical free, wildlife centred ethos at the heart of everything they do.

"Almost everything we build starts with the same question, which is how to make water behave the way it does in nature. We have learned most of what we know from Dorset's own rivers, ponds and chalk streams, so supporting the work that protects them makes complete sense to us. This is a county that has taught our team a great deal, and we would like to give something back to it." - Ben Garner, Director

Thank you, Water Artisans, for helping to create a wilder Dorset and inspiring visitors to explore Dorset's wonderful wild places. 💙 ~ Camille

Last year we built ourselves a test pool, shaped like a wild rocky plunge pool with an open area of around 20-25sq.m. It has been filled for exactly 1 year and is now thriving with wildlife. It’s perfect for cooling off on a hot afternoon or for cold plunges in the cooler weather.

This is also our test pond, a place where we trial new ideas, in our own water and on our own time, so everything we bring to a client’s garden has already proven itself. We believe that progress comes through innovation which is why the ongoing trials here are so important.

Built for fun rather than laps, something compact and fun for those without the room for a large swimming pond or pool.

Water changes how a garden is experienced, and how it behaves depends entirely on the thinking behind it. We help garden designers in the early stages of considering water in a landscape, including CPD days.

Last month, some of the team travelled to @sergehillproject at the @tomstuartsmithstudio where we spent a day sharing knowledge on the design and construction of swimming ponds, with a view to the future and shifting weather patterns.

Millie Souter delivered an insightful talk on the wonderful work she and the team are doing at Serge Hill, before embarking on a tour of Serge Hill and the gardens. We spend our working lives creating and nurturing bodies of water, so it was a rare pleasure to walk one where the planting has been given decades to do the same. Our thanks to Tom and the team for their time.

We are delighted to announce that in September we will be releasing four dates for 2027, specifically for garden designers to learn about water design. These will be delivered at our base in Dorset. Keep an eye out for an announcement soon with more details!

Our team is growing! We currently have these roles open at our base, near Dorchester:

• Pool and Water Feature Plumbing Engineer
• Pond or Pool Specialist
• Site Manager and Supervisor

The work is outdoors and hands-on, on private gardens across Dorset and further afield, often alongside some of the most respected garden designers in the country.

We take on a limited number of projects each year because that is the only way to work at this level, which means every person on site has a genuine hand in how the finished thing turns out.

Full details are linked in our bio. Send us a message if you would like to ask a question first.

This arrived in the post today. Thank you, Rob @robhardygardens , very much indeed. A thoughtful reminder of a super garden we helped bring to life at the Chelsea Flower Show back in May. Rob delivered a bit of a head scratcher idea, but we worked out a solution - we love bringing the tricky ones to life. We’ll put this up on the wall in the office as our little reminder 🙂

Introducing our new living ecosystem. 🌿💧🐦

The Garden at 120 has a new planted water feature designed to create new habitats for wildlife, support biodiversity in the City, and make the garden an even better place for everyone who visits.

As the planting grows, so will the wildlife. Expect more bees, birds, butterflies, and even dragonflies to call this rooftop oasis home.

Projects like this don't happen overnight. Huge thanks to the incredible team behind the transformation, including landscape architects @lucinsider, maintenance specialists @landformuk, @salix_river_and_wetland for the installation and @waterartisans for the water filtration system.

Here's to greener cities, thriving wildlife and spaces that give back.
