Heads up, West End anglers
WDFW is closing all fishing in the Hoh and Quillayute watersheds starting 12:01 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, until further notice.
Streamflows are critically low and water temps are up, which puts real stress on Chinook, coho, and other salmon. The closure covers recreational, commercial, AND guided fishing.
Waters affected (plus all their tributaries):
* Hoh, South Fork Hoh & Clearwater
* Quillayute, Sol Duc, Bogachiel & Calawah
* Dickey, North & East Fork Quillayute
* Bear Creek (Quillayute system) & Goodman Creek
Give the fish a break this week. We’ll share the news as soon as WDFW reopens things.

Lago is spanish for “pretty awesome single hand spey rod” …well no, not really but the @echoflyfishing Lago paired with a @scientificanglers spey lite is a solid rod for fall fishing in the PNW. The air is getting crisp, the sun still warm, and somewhere in the spray of a shooting line, fall is getting close, and with that comes salmon on the Olympic Peninsula.

A great friend of the shop invited us out to fly fish for salmon. First time doing it, something I’d wanted to do for a long time.

I fished flies my wonderful grandfather, Dick Goin, tied years ago before he passed. If you’ve fished salmon on the Olympic Peninsula, there’s a good chance you’ve heard his name. I never got the chance to fish these with him while he was here, so being able to take them out now, and watch them still work exactly like they were supposed to, meant more than I expected.

Had the camera on me the whole day, trying to capture it the way it actually felt to be out there.

Last Session, Last Stop.
