We have special guests @shaunnasavestheplanet from @risingtidewellness_ and Physical Therapist @_lavidaliz_ co-hosting our meet-up with us this month!

@wavesofcolororg events welcomes all women & non-binary folks who feel comfortable in a space centered on women’s experiences. You must be 18 years or older to attend this event.

This week we attended an @isasurfing webinar on surf warm-up as a tool for performance surfing. Research shows that warming up between 8 to 15 minutes before a surf session & keeping your body warm can help with fatigue and improve performance during your surf session. It’s also a great tool to help prevent injuries. by @wavesofcolororg

We had a blast celebrating and tabling at @groundswellcommunityproject Community Day last weekend 🏄‍♀️ The day was filled with water activities, yoga, sound healing, art, play, amazing raffles, music, community tabling, and more!

Happy 10 years to your amazing nonprofit! Cheers to more surf therapy, collaborations & partnerships, and community!

Every journey is a reminder that there is no single path to belonging in the ocean 🌸

@sophialynnuribe relationship with the sea began with childhood trips to the coast with her family and a curiosity that eventually grew into a lifelong connection with the water.

Today, she gives back by mentoring women and Indigenous youth as the COO of @nativelikewater

Sophia helps create spaces where more people can feel welcomed, represented, and empowered in the water.

Our first Portland Chapter Surf Chat x Social @upnorthsurfclub was a great turnout! Over 15 women showed up to discuss overcoming fear in the water and the surf 🏄‍♀️✨

Can relate…we have all definitely cried to help overcome those fears 😭

We heard of so many common themes, which we will share more next week. We will be hosting more of these this Fall for both Portland & San Diego Chapter!

Where: San Diego, CA, Location TBA  Cost: Clinic offered at a sliding scale $80 to $160

Thank you @mydragonskin for hosting a community surf and stingray bootie demo event with us this past weekend!

We enjoyed learning about stingray injury prevention and trying on their new 2.0 version of their string resistant surf booties!

Everyone walked away with a pair of booties just in time for stingray season. Here are some facts about stingrays:

1. Mating season for stingrays in SoCal is Mar to May
2. They are common in the SoCal shores June to Oct
3. 10,000+ stingray injury occurrences each summer, which averages to 100+ injuries per day!

Don’t forget to do your stingray shuffle and avoid stepping or hopping off your surfboard. If you do get stung you will feel a sharp pain, bleeding, and swelling.

Contact the lifeguard on duty if possible and get yourself into hot water (110 degrees) or as hot as you can handle ASAP for the pain, which will help draw out venom. Monitor for 1 to 2 weeks.

Go to ER if you have severe bleeding, signs of allergic reaction, swelling, pain, redness or if you see puss. If you suspect the barb is lodged in wound, don’t remove barb yourself! Seek medical attention, xray and treatment if symptoms worsen.

Wear stingray resistant booties from DragonSkin to prevent stingray injuries 🏄🏽‍♀️🤙🏽
