Welcome back to the Los Angeles Sex Therapy Team Video Interview Series founded by Moushumi Ghose, MFT.

In this interview series, we introduce you to the coaches and therapists at LAST so you can get to know them by hearing their voices, seeing their faces, and learning more about their unique approaches to this work, and why they love doing what they do!

This week, we meet with Wayne LeSane, CSRC who shares insights into what inspired him into becoming a sex coach, what it’s like to work with him, and also some fun facts about him along the way!

Wayne was born in Washington, D.C., in 1971 and was raised in a culture of repressed emotions. Throughout his life’s journeys, travel, and gained experiences, he was able to unlearn many of the biases he learned as a child around intimacy, sex, and relationships.

He was consciously non-monogamous for about 25 years, including his current relationship and marriage of 19 years.

He absolutely loves talking about sex and relationships, especially dating culture and non-monogamy with anyone who is open to engaging and exploring. His strength lies in his ability to help folks see all the options that are truly in front of them and to help make their desires a reality by getting as creative as they want to be.

Up now: Episode 29 of the Shades of Pleasure podcast, where Mou, Melissa, Wayne, and Kelly, four intimacy and relationship professionals, explore the harm caused by silence and complicity in the face of oppression.

We are all taught stories about how people are “supposed” to live, love, express themselves, and build relationships. While each of us has the right to make our own choices, dominant cultural narratives, particularly those rooted in conservative religious ideology and colonial systems, have caused profound harm for many communities. These narratives continue to reinforce objectification, exploitation, victim blaming, and the stigmatization of people who exist outside of what society has labeled as “normal.” Black, Brown, Indigenous, queer, immigrant, disabled, and other marginalized communities continue to bear the weight of these systems every day.

Compulsory 🤫 is the pervasive belief that 🤫 is universally desired, inherently necessary, and expected as part of being human. As Sherronda Brown writes, it is the assumption that people are obligated to participate in 🤫 at some point in life, and that something must be “wrong” with those who do not.

Many clients enter therapy distressed about differences in desire, often identifying “low desire” as the problem. But what happens when clinicians themselves are operating from a framework rooted in compulsory 🤫? by @wayne.lesane
