A quick snapshot of what’s been keeping us busy this week. We’ve been working with some really nice wood grains, highlighting the natural beauty of each wood species. Sometimes clients avoid these but we love it when they want the more gnarly pieces, otherwise we just keep them for ourselves 😉 taken in FRMD by @wearefrmd

Every now and then someone walks in and asks, ‘Can you frame this?’

This week, ‘this’ was a plastic bag from a pulpería in Galicia.

We matched the mount colour with the text on the bag and a dark rich walnut frame. 🐙🇪🇸 taken in FRMD by @wearefrmd

It’s all in the details. Up close with a few different finishes from last few weeks.

First up we have a lap joint done in oak with a lime wax finish. Then. A custom rounded profile finished in an off white paint. Shane MacGowan floated between glass so back of print is also visible and finally a simple flat faced beech profile.

Every frame we make is completely bespoke to each customer’s specifications. taken in FRMD by @wearefrmd

Kyran working his magic (and patience) on this piece. We used the morso to cut out v-shaped grooved around the frame.

A few of the finishes we use every day in the workshop.

Oils, stains, paint, waxes… the options are endless. The same frame can look completely different depending on the finish. We can help you choose the finish that will suit your artwork best.

We love some colour at FRMD. Whether it’s contrasting or complimenting this is a great way to add some fun to your artwork and walls.

Every frame is made in-house at our East London workshop, allowing us to create bespoke finishes and colours tailored to each artwork and space. taken in FRMD by @wearefrmd

Another busy week in the workshop.

Lots of different projects moving through FRMD this week, from design consultations and frame making to mounting, fitting and final finishing. Every week is always different from photographs, to children’s drawings to more weird objects including an old leg cast.

A lot of colourful frames on this week. Some colour matched, others contrasting, others tonal. Plenty of ways to give artwork a boost through a colourful frame.

We hand paint all our frames. Sand them down first and then multiple coats of paint with sanding in between to get a smoother finish. Finished off with a protective varnish.

We use a whole range of paint brands and can source most colours. This week we had a few from @colormakespeoplehappy who we’ve been working with for years now. Their colours are super fun and are worth it just for their names, eg ‘That guy will never make it selling shoes’ or ‘No moral value’ taken in FRMD by @wearefrmd

We tried something new for these @shao_yu.studio ‘Swans at Noon’ from @partnershipeditions.

For these Kyran our woodworking wizard joint up some beech and walnut strips to make a two tone moulding. We did the invert pattern for each frame. The artwork was floated with a window surround and finished with anti reflective glass. taken in FRMD by @wearefrmd
