This Thursday we will be closing our year of Study Spirals with a special circle led by twin mama extraordinaire, Jodi Jade.

Together we will explore the Mexican Closing of the Bones (La Cerrada), a powerful ritual used to mark endings, integrate experiences, and honour women through life’s many rites of passage, particularly postpartum.

We will speak to the importance of honouring lineage and preserving ancient wisdom with integrity and respect, explore the role of ritual in modern life, and learn about the Rebozo and its use throughout the stages of a woman’s life. Jodi will guide us through the purpose and benefits of the Closing of the Bones ceremony, and how it may differ depending on a woman’s healing intention.

It feels like a deeply meaningful way to close the bones of this year together, in community and care.

The Rebozo is a traditional shawl/scarf, handwoven by women for women. The beautiful Mexican tradition of using the Rebozo is handed down from mother to daughter, generation to generation, from midwife to midwife.

The rebozo arrived to Mexico with the Spaniards through colonization which arrived to the Spaniards via the Arabs.

It has become a significant and essential symbol of identity and part of the Mexican tradition and culture.

During La Cerrada Ceremony, the woman is tightly wrapped with 7 or 8 Rebozos. Physically, the precise Rebozo techniques guide her bones back into place - ensuring proper realignment, supporting pelvic stability, and overall physical well-being.

The ceremony assists in shifting pelvic organs back to their original positions. This process helps the uterus shrink down to its pre-pregnancy size and encourages optimal blood flow, supports tissue repair and overall vitality which promotes healing and recovery after childbirth. The ritual helps release tension from muscles, allowing the body to relax. This relaxation contributes to milk production and overall postpartum comfort. by @weavingancientways

Final Study Spiral of 2025 — with Jodi Jade ✨Join me and spread the word🌹🙏🏾🌹
Traditional Mexican Closing of the Bones
18 December 2025 • 11am–2pm SAST

As we come to the end of another year of Study Spirals, I’m so grateful to close 2025 with a circle rooted in lineage, integrity, and the sacred art of ritual.

This month we are joined by Jodi Jade, who will guide us into the ancient wisdom of the Traditional Mexican Closing of the Bones ceremony — a practice woven through birth, postpartum, transition, and the many thresholds of a woman’s life.

Jodi carries this lineage with deep respect. Her journey into this work began after the birth of her first child in Mexico, and many years later she was initiated directly into the tradition by her first midwife, Leticia Hernández. Jodi speaks beautifully about how this ritual holds women in moments of vulnerability, transformation, and remembrance.

In our circle we will explore:

🌺 The history and lineage of the Closing of the Bones ceremony
🌺 The Rebozo and its role in sacred ritual
🌺 The importance of rites of passage in a modern world
🌺 How ancient practices can be honoured without losing their essence
🌺 The healing potential of this ceremony throughout the seasons of a woman’s life

This Spiral is an invitation to slow down, reconnect with the power of ritual, and honour the women who came before us — and the women we are becoming.

The body remembers, the bones remember, the joints remember, even the little finger remembers. Memory is lodged in pictures and feelings in the cells themselves. Like a sponge filled with water, anywhere the flesh is pressed, wrung, even touched lightly, a memory may flow out in a stream- clarissa pinkola estes by @weavingancientways
