Anyone fancy a Christmas wreath making night with the girls this year? 🥂

I thought this would be such a lovely way to spend an evening in the run-up to Christmas, especially if you enjoy making your own decorations but would rather not drive around trying to find all the bits you need!

We're now taking pre-orders for our DIY Christmas wreath and garland kits at Welland Vale and we've chosen three lovely designs for you to have a go at making at home.

The Traditional Wreath is £40, with fresh greenery, cinnamon, pinecones and dried fruit.

The Modern Wreath is £45, with beautiful eucalyptus, natural seed heads and softer greens.

The 2-metre Spruce Garland for £60, which would look wonderful across a fireplace.

Everything you need comes together in one kit, so all that's left for you to organise is the company and perhaps a bottle of something nice!

We're taking orders in the garden centre until 31st October, with collection during the last week of November and payment is taken when ordering.

Christmas has made its way into the kitchen 🎄

We know a lot of you have a Christmas tree in the kitchen, so this year we thought it deserved its own little world.

There are decorations that look good enough to eat, plenty of things you really can eat, and lots of those bits that somehow disappear long before Christmas Day arrives.

Panettone, chutneys, treats for the cheese board, hampers, stocking fillers… and quite a few things we’d happily take home ourselves.

Have a nose around our Christmas food department next time you’re in and if you’re starting to think about presents, there are some lovely local Christmas gift ideas in there too.

If you fancy growing your own fruit next summer well now's a good time to get started!

Autumn gives soft fruit plants a lovely head start. There's still warmth in the soil, natural rainfall to help the roots establish and less energy being used on leafy growth.

We've shared some advice on why planting now can make such a difference but keep on swiping too see some of the soft fruit plants we've currently got available at Welland Vale.

You really don’t need loads of glitter to make Christmas feel special.

I pick everything that comes into the shop and I’m always looking for things that make me think, “I know exactly what I’d do with that.”

This wreath is absolutely one of them! I would put it straight in the middle of the Christmas table and plant it up with real foliage, succulents, ivy or a few hyacinth bulbs. Something a little bit different that people are definitely going to ask you about.

If you like making your own decorations, chicken wire and a handful of fresh or faux stems can go a surprisingly long way.

The same goes for wreaths and garlands. Keep them simple, add a beautiful ribbon and a few bells, and sometimes that’s all you need.

Some messages really do make our day 💚

We put so much thought into our Christmas displays each year...which is why we hand pick all the decorations and find the little things we think you'll love. So when someone takes the time to send us a message like this, it means an awful lot.

Christmas is always a big team effort here at Welland Vale and it's lovely to know how much you enjoy coming in to see what we've created.

Thank you to everyone who's already popped in for a look. We hope we've given you a few ideas for your own Christmas decorating this year!

September at Welland Vale… apparently the month we decided it was perfectly normal to have autumn outside and Christmas inside 😂

We’ve been watching the nursery slowly change colour, growing rather a lot of violas, meeting some very sweet four-legged customers and handing over one of our gift voucher prizes.

Meanwhile Charlie has been drilling holes in walls and Annie has been hanging books from the ceiling...as you do.

Christmas is taking shape now and there’s still plenty going on outside too so make sure you come visit us in October.

Some of these are about to leave us… but you might spot them again around Uppingham 🌱

These Panolas, Ajuga and trailing Lysimachia ‘Goldilocks’ have all been contract grown here at Welland Vale ready to head out to local schools and businesses next week.

It’s a side of what we do that you might not always see. We grow seasonal plants for local organisations too, helping to keep planters and spaces around our area looking their best.

So if you’re out and about in Uppingham next week, keep an eye out. You might recognise a few of these 👀

Christmas doesn’t just magically appear overnight… although we do try to make it look that way 🎄

Behind the scenes, Charlie’s been drilling, cutting and building, while the rest of us have been knee-deep in boxes getting this year’s Christmas displays ready.

Anyone else’s summer planters looking a little… tired? 😅

After the heat we’ve had, mine definitely needed some attention, so I thought I’d show you what I’d pick from Welland Vale to bring them back to life for autumn.

A bit of structure, plenty of colour, something with a lovely scent and a trailing plant to soften the edges. Nothing too complicated, just a good mix that’ll keep your pots looking lovely as we head into the cooler months.

If you like the idea but don’t fancy putting one together yourself… I may have made a few for you 👀

Pop in this weekend and have a look, there’s loads of autumn colour around the nursery at the moment.

Sometimes it really is as simple as asking 💚

One of the lovely volunteers from @barrowdenandwakerleyshop community popped in to see Annie and asked whether we might be able to help with some plants for their new planters outside the shop.

We were very happy to say yes!

So these seasonal plants are off to Barrowden, where the volunteer team will be getting the new planters filled and looking lovely for everyone in the village to enjoy.

Supporting our local community is something that means a lot to us at Welland Vale, especially when it involves people giving up their own time to make where they live that little bit nicer.

Now we just need to see them once they’re planted up… 🌿

We’re nearly ready to wrap up our little clear-out… because Christmas is starting to creep into Welland Vale if you've been watching our stories 🎄

Yet before we make the switch, there are still some very good garden bargains hanging around.

Our remaining Apta outdoor pots are 50% off, and our homegrown perennials are still down from £12.99 to £6.99.

So if you’ve been meaning to sort that empty pot, fill a gap in the border or one last garden-centre rummage before everything starts looking a little more Christmassy, now’s a good time.
