What a year! Three years ago, I began working on a poetry collection, uncertain whether I could stick with it or if it would help me heal from the grief of a painful breakup and a lonely move to Los Angeles. But, in an unexpected twist, it did save me. I know it sounds cliché, but it’s the truth. Back then, I didn’t recognize myself; I had lost who I was. Through writing, I slowly began to rediscover me. I kept writing, even when life started to improve. Though I minored in poetry in college, I had never written with such frequency or consistency. Over the past three years, I’ve navigated grief, healing, and the discovery of parts of myself I never knew existed. Along the way, my best friend since highschool Charlotte Luella Durkee joined me in this creative journey, gifting me her incredible talent by creating charcoal sketches to accompany my poems. This book is not only a reflection of my healing but also a labor of love. I’m deeply grateful to my sister for her unwavering creative support and to Charlotte for her stunning illustrations and steadfast friendship since high school. Of all the things I’ve achieved this year, this book stands at the top. We did it, Charlie Bear. We made a book. The Kindle digital is available for pre-order now, and the paperback will be available on January 7th. Link in bio.
