AWAKE in the crib is the foundation to sleeping through the night and longer naps!

It’s a skill that takes time, practice, and consistency. 💤

If you’ve been feeding, rocking, or holding to ‘drowsy’ or asleep and transferring to the crib you may find that over time it’s something that now has to be done every time to fall asleep.

These are all things our baby can’t do for themselves, so we continue to do these interventions because they tend to work well…UNTIL they Don’t….

3-4 months is the Golden age to start working on independent sleep, but it’s never too late! 💫

‼️ It is possible to have a baby that falls asleep independently and sleeps 11-12 hours overnight!

‼️ Not every wake up overnight is a hunger related wake up!

I get it! As tired parents, we often turn to feeding as a quick solution to get our babies back to sleep. 🙏💤

One of my clients’ little ones was waking up like clockwork at 12, 2, 4, and 5 a.m. 😴

At 4 months, she realized it wasn’t about hunger—it was a habit and about the cozy soothing from feeding to fall back asleep.

Within a few nights of implementing her sleep plan her baby slept through the night without a feed.

Bonus! her daytime feeds improved too! 🥰

If you’re struggling with these overnight wake-ups and feeds drop a comment 𝗗𝗥𝗢𝗣 and I’ll send you my Free Guide with night weaning tips.

😴 The Well Rested course has customizable night weaning options and responsive methods to help your baby sleep through the night! And bonus: their daytime feeds will improve too! 💫

Unpopular opinion….👇

The pacifier is usually a part of the sleep problem.

Pacifiers are great for soothing your baby and can help a lot of babies sleep in the first few months, BUT I generally recommend removing the pacifier between 3-6 months of age! 😳

It’s time to say good bye if you’re replacing it multiple times overnight or your baby can’t sleep without it.

It can cause alot of sleep disruptions even when your baby can replace it on their own as many babies will wake up and cry when they can’t find it. 🫠

I remove the pacifier 99% of the time when sleep training because it’s part of the problem!!

💪🏼💛The pacifier becomes a STRONG emotional attachment for babies between 6-12 months which can lead to some tears when removed from sleep if they are completely dependent on it.

⭐️ 3-6 months is the easiest transition.

Ready to drop the pacifier?! Comment 𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗜 and I’ll send you tips to help this habit or wean the pacifier:

You can have a good napper and overnight sleeper without it!! We have 1:1 coaching from 3 months to age 4 and the Well Rested sleep courses! Recommended for babies from 4-24 months!

You miiiiight not believe this, but here is the truth…

😴 As tired parents we try to help our baby fall asleep at bedtime and overnight in the fastest way possible to maximize our own sleep!

At 3-4 months your baby’s brain starts to associate how they fall asleep and will look for the same steps to get them there.

A Drowsy state is very subjective and many parents interpret this as getting baby into a state of eyes closing with the help of rocking, feeding, or holding.

But this is actually getting your baby into the first light stage of sleep!

If you’ve been feeding, rocking, or holding to ‘drowsy’ you may find that it’s something that now has to be done every time to fall asleep.

These are all things our baby can’t do for themselves, so we continue to do these interventions because they tend to work well…UNTIL they DON’T.

Over time, many babies will start to take more and more rocking to fall asleep or will wake and cry when you try to transfer from the breast/bottle to the crib and then you end up repeating the same thing until they’re finally in a deep enough sleep.

BUT, then it happens again at midnight, 2, and 4 am! 😵‍💫😴

➕Your baby needs a solid routine that cues their brain that it’s time for sleep, but it’s important that they learn how to fall asleep independently.

➕Meaning awake with eyes open when you lay them in the crib and they fall asleep after being laid IN THE CRIB.

What matters is if it’s working for you or not!

‼️ It is possible to have a baby that falls asleep independently and sleeps 11-12 hours overnight!

How many night feeds does your baby take? Many babies get into a habitual pattern of feeding overnight which can turn into reverse cycle feeding pattern. This is common around 3-4 months if they starting waking more often overnight as their sleep cycles change and rely on feeding back to sleep!

If you’re back to multiple night feeds or have never gotten more than a 3-4 hour stretch at night I have comment 𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗗 and I’ll send you a DM with a link with tips!
