Shot at @wendyrandom lowrider event in Lower East Side, Manhattan. This was my first time attending one of Wendy’s events. The energy and the crowd she brings is such a vibe… I watched all walks of life pass by Wendy’s event and everybody was loving it… they were taking photos , filming videos…... It just showed me how special Wendy’s events really are ….If you haven’t been to one I highly recommend it !!!! I’m honored to be able to document Wendy’s Journey….. and even more honored to call her my friend. We are currently working on a short film. We started filming in Los Angeles and we’re now shooting in New York! We both can’t wait to show the world what we’ve been working on.

I have always dreamed of leaving a mark in history with my photography. I never imagined this dream to be much greater than I hoped for. The wildest thing is, when I sold my largest photo ever printed (7 feet wide, 5 feet high) over a year ago, the buyer told me: “Your work needs to be in a museum!” My response was, “I’ve tried but I’m discouraged now. Fine art & high end museums don’t understand or appreciate lowrider culture.” And boy, was I wrong! Literally, the very next day, I woke up to a message from a curator at the Smithsonian & offered me the opportunity to be in an all Latino lowrider exhibition. I thought it was spam because it was a total coincidence that I received that message the following day! lol But once we spoke on the phone, it all hit me & it was emotional because it was real! I am proud & very excited for my future to see what else will unfold. Many people would find it odd that I traveled outside of LA to document this culture, since there are so many lowriders in Cali so that seemed to confuse people. Well, let me speak my mind to you: it’s not about quantity to me. I wanted to step out of my comfort zone, challenge myself, document the love & shine a light through my photography to expose the culture from other cities. I was raised with this culture my whole life as a Cali girl & I appreciate it ANYWHERE! I’d like to thank the lowrider communities worldwide for their support & being part of this amazing journey. We did this together & I wouldn’t be here without you guys. My photos will also remain as part of the permanent collection for future generations to see! I love this culture & the beautiful unity it brings. The Smithsonian… Can’t even believe it. Stay tuned! Lowrider next to me is named, “Dave’s Dream” from Española, New Mexico - A city with high significance to the lowrider movement. Thank you all. A heartfelt thank-you to photographer and event promoter Wendy Random for inviting Norman Carter & Damon DJ Minus Carter to perform at her Annual Cali Love NYC Lowrider Car & Bike Show at Johnny’s Reef Restaurant on City Island, New York.

Although the event was outdoors and the rain came down hard, everyone who came out stayed, enjoyed themselves and kept the celebration going.
When Wendy, Tone and Sol made the decision to move the performance indoors, Norman was still able to give the audience the classic soul and oldies show they came to see—and everyone had a wonderful time!

We truly appreciate Wendy, Tone, Oz, Evil Lopez & Sol and all the supporters who refused to let the weather stop the love, music and good times.

I have shot lowriders at so many iconic locations but this particular one will always have a different significance to me. This photo was shot a few years back, if I’m remembering correctly, I shot it the day before 9/11 on September 10 during the time Manhattan illuminated the sky in remembrance of 9/11. We took this photo from a nice viewpoint area in New Jersey. I now have a beautiful family in New York & this day hits much different for me now, after personally meeting so many people out there with their own experience on that tragic day. My love & respect goes to all of the lives lost & their loved ones. A big thank you to @2001tahoefuentes from @tristatelowriders who came out to have this photo shoot with me.
