Apoquel® and Cytopoint® can both be excellent options for managing allergies in dogs, but they're not interchangeable.

The right choice depends on factors like your dog's age, overall health, the severity of their itching, and your veterinarian's treatment goals.

There's no single "best" option. The best medication is the one that's the right fit for your dog.

A dog's breed or size doesn't tell you everything about their personality.

I've met giant breeds that are incredibly gentle and tiny dogs with endless confidence.

What matters most is the individual dog's behavior, training, and experiences. Judge the dog in front of you, not the label attached to them.

Home-cooked meals can be a great option for dogs, but they need to be nutritionally complete.

Working with a board-certified veterinary nutritionist helps ensure your dog's diet contains the right balance of protein, fats, vitamins, minerals, and calories for their age, health, and lifestyle.

A well-formulated recipe can provide the benefits of home cooking without the risk of nutritional deficiencies.

Many people are surprised to learn that getting into veterinary school can be just as competitive, and in some places even more competitive, than getting into medical school.

With far fewer veterinary schools and limited class sizes, earning a spot is no easy feat.

Every veterinarian has worked incredibly hard to get where they are, and that dedication continues long after graduation.

Emergency and large corporate veterinary hospitals can be invaluable when your pet needs immediate, specialized care.

However, for routine or non-emergency concerns, independent veterinary practices often provide excellent care at a lower cost.

If your pet's condition can safely wait, checking with your regular veterinarian first may help you avoid unnecessary emergency fees while still getting high-quality care.

Not every pet concern needs an immediate trip to the emergency hospital.

Platforms like AirVet let you connect with a veterinarian remotely, helping you decide whether your pet truly needs emergency care or can safely wait to see your regular veterinarian.

That guidance can save time, reduce unnecessary emergency costs, and help you get the right level of care for your pet.

Growing up with a dog may do more than create happy memories.

Research suggests that early exposure to dogs can help support the developing immune system and may be associated with a lower risk of certain allergies and asthma in some children.

Of course, every child is different, but for many families, a dog can be good for both the heart and the immune system.

There's a common misconception that veterinarians are in it for the money.

The reality is that, in many countries, veterinarians often earn less than physicians (MDs) despite years of rigorous education, demanding work, and long hours.

Most vets choose this profession because of a genuine passion for animals and a commitment to improving their health and wellbeing.

The next time you visit your veterinarian, remember that compassion is often what brought them to the profession in the first place.

If you're thinking about adding a dog to your family, don't overlook adoption.

Shelters and rescue organizations are filled with incredible dogs of every size, personality, and breed, including beautiful White Shepherds and many other purebred dogs.

By adopting, you're not just finding a companion.

You're giving a deserving dog a second chance at a loving home.
