The Barn at Long Lane Farm - Designed and Built by North Studio.

Over the course of a single semester at Wesleyan, 18 students, under the guidance of Professor Elijah Huge, hand built Long Lane Farm’s newest structure, a massive monolith jutting into the sky, a paradigm of creativity combining both architecture and engineering skills. The Barn is the result of hundreds of hours of physical labor, and is a testament to the unique experience provided in the Architecture II Studio. Congratulations to all of the students who designed and built The Barn.

Students from Prof. Chris Weaver’s IDEA350 ‘Computational Media: Videogame Development’ presented their educational game prototypes to industry leaders and CoDES directors during finals week. This was the culmination of a semester spent working in teams to rigorously develop a STEM based videogame focused on engaging 2nd to 5th grade students. During this process students had the opportunity to conduct field research and provide hands on play at a local elementary school. A huge well done to teams Fludity, Kiri the Fossil Finding Pup and Spark Quest on their incredible work and congratulations to team ‘Kiri’ for their game receiving the highest score! We also would like to recognize the efforts of assistants: Connor Davitt ‘26, Maze Labowitz ‘26 & Beats Tura ‘27 in making this semester a tremendous success! by @wes_codes

Students from IDEA210 ‘How Things Fail: Mechanics and Materials’ recently presented and tested their final projects. They were tasked with designing and building a bridge that spans 3 feet (and adheres to other geometric constraints) by using 1/8” thick sheets of wood (MDF) and cables. These were then tested with a sensor to monitor structural response i.e., deformation due to the loads applied on the bridges at specific locations, evaluated efficiency as the ratio of load carried and self-weight of the structures. by @wes_codes

After a semester creating metal objects, learning historic and modern metalworking techniques, and building up theories of heat transfer, IDEA212 students brought all these ideas together into their final project, where they built a metal object and analyzed a related heat transfer problem. by @wes_codes

Interdisciplinary Project Lab presented their final lighting fixtures in the Gribbel Room yesterday, all of the projects centered around “lighting”, but ranged from glowing orbs made from dried out squash to stained glass window pieces! Congratulations to all of the students!

If you missed this event, don’t worry! Some of the light fixtures will remain on display in Gribbel Room through the end of the week. by @wes_codes
