Sometimes, one moment can remind someone they’re not alone.

Sarah Onofri, our Family Programs Coordinator, shares a favorite memory from a 1-Day Conference, in which a young boy stuttered openly and confidently as the room gave him time to speak. Sarah explains how for one first-time attendee, witnessing that little boy’s courage was transformative and changed her life.

She shares how much Sisters Who Stutter has impacted her stuttering journey, especially as a young woman. The meetings have fueled her sense of belonging and allowed her to realize that she is not alone!

What to do after someone stutters:

–Keep the conversation moving naturally.
–Respond to what they said.
–Treat their words as the point, not their stutter.

People who stutter don’t need every speaking moment to become a performance review. They need to be part of the conversation like anyone else.
