Starting at the Isle of Wight’s westernmost edge, the iconic Needles mark the beginning of a breathtaking coastline firstly edging the village of Totland. The views from Headon Warren across to Hurst Castle and the mainland and the coastal walk from Widdick Chine connecting seamlessly through to Colwell Bay and Brambles Chine is all absolutely beautiful all year long. Quiet and picturesque, Totland has a charming elegant character with its beach side eateries, village hall, post office, small petrol station and convenience store. The magic of West Wight has always been its quiet rhythm. The open downs, dark skies and beautiful beaches that give this corner of the island its space to breathe. As we approach the end of 2026, the Isle of Wight has firmly established itself as a rapidly growing hub for active living and holistic well-being. West Wight has been at the heart of this, hosting a remarkable collection of athletic, cycling and running gatherings throughout the year.
Major cycling fixtures routed through or centered in West Wight include the Le Blanq Tour, Wight Roads Gravel Epic based out of Freshwater, the iconic Isle of Wight Randonnée, the Isle of Wight Sportive and the Isle of Wight Ride for Hope. Athletics, running, and multi-sport endurance events fundamentally anchored in the region feature the West Wight Three Hills race, the Needles Half Marathon, the Solent Swim starting from Hurst Castle and finishing at Colwell Bay, the West Wight Triathlon and the year-ending West Wight Chilly Hilly cross-country run. Together, these events showcase why West Wight remains an unmatched sanctuary for movement, rest and outdoor endurance. CONTEMPORARY ART IN AN UNEXPECTED PLACE…

Spent some time exploring the CAN YOU HEAR US? exhibition at Appuldurcombe House today.

What an incredible setting for contemporary art!

There’s something fascinating about seeing artists respond to a place through different materials, techniques and perspectives. From porcelain and textiles to photography and installations, each piece has its own connection to the building, its history or the surrounding landscape.

As someone who’s always drawn inspiration from the natural world in my own work, I particularly enjoyed seeing how other creatives interpret their surroundings.

Another reminder of just how much creativity we have here on the Isle of Wight, and why it’s so important to get out and support it.
