This was actually my first @fabricgodmother Bramble but I’m only getting around to sharing it now. It was a test version and I was keen to see how the trim would look inserted into the seams. I was pretty pleased with the outcome.

It’s made in a cotton poplin called Oscar and the trim is ricrac. You can find a video on adding trims to the Bramble on the FG YouTube channel. Yes, I am a bit obsessed with trims and this is the perfect blouse for it!

I’ll be teaching a class in the FG studio in November if you fancy learning how to make one, including adding trim if you are so inclined.

I cut into my special fabric…….and made a dress.

This designer deadstock Liberty Tana lawn I got from @fabricgodmother has been in my stash for some time. Years! It was always destined to be a special dress but I wanted to be sure of which one I wanted it to be. The wave design makes for some tricky placement so I needed to make sure a design worked with this.

Finally, with a friend’s birthday approaching, it was time. I had made the @sewlovepatterns Springe dress before and love wearing it. It’s a go to (rare) night out dress so it was ideal. The pattern is made for a dressmaker’s B cup but the bust adjustment is a very simple one to my D cup.

Feel very happy that this fabric has moved from my fabric cupboard to my wardrobe. Do you have a special fabric you can’t bring yourself to cut into yet?

It’s another great blouse in the @fabricgodmother collection. Introducing the Bramble Blouse.

This is actually my second Bramble. I will share my first, which was an initial test, very soon.
I love the tie collar and triangle shape in the back. The blouse we all wanted to make before it became a pattern!

As you might imagine, I had to go with some trim who is easily inserted into the seam of the collar and facing on the cuff. The fabric is a gorgeous embroidered cotton called Nia which was gifted as part of further testing.

Add. Summer sewing goals! My plans this summer have been to make things which keep me feeling cool!

My wardrobe was lacking clothes that get my arms out. Perimenopause, heatwave, and sleeves don’t mix. This dress has been on my inspo/planning board for a while. I saw @rosie_stirling striped one and knew I needed to make a version.

It’s the @sewoveritlondon Malorie dress in @fabricgodmother striped linen called Sebastian. I’m a little obsessed with all the stripe linen and also blue and lemon, so it’s perfect. And linen in summer, well is there a better fabric? I love the dart detail in this bodice, which is crying out for a good stripe, in my opinion. Sew over its D cup options are a godsend. They have become a go to, no major adjustment, pattern company for me. Especially for a fitted bodice.

The fabric was gifted in return for a post and photos.

Finally sharing my version of the latest patterns from @fabricgodmother the #fgmarlowe waistcoat and #fgren shorts.

This set was a test for the pattern. If you have made it, you may recognise my waistcoat from the lining tutorial on YouTube. I made mine in one of my ultimate colours, cobalt. It’s a European Tumbled linen. I went for @pigeonwishes.shops buttons for a perfect match.

I don’t wear shorts much these days but I have to say these have been so lovely to wear in this heat. The waistcoat is really versatile and I’ve worn it with skirts as well as the shorts. I’m looking forward to pairing it with jeans in cooler weather. Check out the support tutorials if you make them. There’s more coming soon.

This summer I am sewing less with a lot of extra family responsibilities. So I am being mindful of what I sew and sticking to my mood board plans.

The big gap in my wardrobe this summer was skirts and summer tops. I recently made a wearable toile of the @maisonfauveuk #saltotop. Love the shape and fit (with a little bust adjustment). I used some pipping on the bottom of the yoke panel.

I really wanted a gathered skirt with panels and then saw the @bfpatterns Sabrina skirt. It has the gathers but not too much around the waist so doesn’t add too much bulk. Also, the ties at the waist make it adjustable.

Both of the fabrics were from @fabricgodmother and I sported them next to each other. I think they are a match made in heaven. Lightweight lawn and seersucker are a lovely lightweight combination!

I was one of the lucky ones to get an early copy of @juliahincks new book, ‘The beginner’s guide to dressmaking.’ Julia was my tutor many moons ago when I studied for my diploma in fashion and dressmaking and she’s an amazing teacher.

I knew her book would be the best comprehensive guide you could have when learning to sew and she didn’t disappoint. Julia has a wonderful way of explaining things but with all those added tips that are so valuable.

The book has so many patterns and even hacking ideas. There are techniques throughout which are followed by pattern instructions. This allows you to practice that technique. It’s the perfect gift for anyone brand new to sewing but also someone building their skills. There are signed copies available on Julia’s website which can be found in the link on her bio @houseofmisssew

I made the skirt with hip pockets and added Julia’s frill hack to the bottom, along with a drawstring tie. I sized up a little so the skirt wasn’t too fitted with the longer length. It’s made in @fabricgodmother ace viscose crepe with a touch of skinny ricrac above the frill. It has been worn quite a few times with different tops. Think I might need to make her vest top in my left over ace next!

Sky blue and chocolate polka dots. It was love at first sight when this colour way came into the @fabricgodmother studio. I made this dress a while ago but I’ve waited to share until the fabric came back into stock and it’s back!

There are a few colour ways of this Vivian viscose crepe but the blue is the one that caught my eye as soon as I saw it. I first made a @tillybuttons Marnie dress when the pattern was released. I don’t wear a short dress so I made a midi and I wore it so much. It has been on my list to make another for so long.

This version is a little longer (I may shorten it slightly as it’s longer than expected). I like wearing it cinched in at the waist so I made a matching tie belt. Of course the weather is now way too hot to wear a long sleeve but I did get to wear it on my 10 year anniversary dinner recently. Swipe to see the only photo I managed to take! No idea why I’m showing off my empty cocktail!

Gingham and seersucker! Is there any better combination for summer? This red and blue gingham is the latest edition to the rowan gingham collection @fabricgodmother . I paired it with some cross stitch buttons which are plain buttons with holes to embroider. I got carried away and each one is done in a different design. A great way to match your buttons to your garment and have a lot of fun doing it. Swipe to see all.

Once it is hot I just want to live in swishy skirts and sleeveless tops. The @fibremood #alixskirt is my go to for summer. With a button up front and pleats instead of gathers, it doesn’t have too much extra bulk around the waist. It also has wide belt loops for a belt which is a must for me with fluctuating waist size. I have made quite a few of these over the years.

I haven’t been sewing for myself as much lately but have found my go to for ready to wear that not only looks great but fits! @tuclothing is a revelation. Reasonably priced and some really good pieces, like this lace trimmed sleeveless blouse. Mixing my me mades with some cute ready to wear is my look for summer.

I love bag making. When you often sew for a living, it can stop feeling like your hobby. Even if you still love it. For me, sewing bags, slippers, accessories, is something different. I don’t need to make it fit for start and there is something quite magical about the ‘birthing’ stage.

I recently was very lucky to upgrade my machine to a @pfaffuk creative 3.0 which also embroiders. I have been getting to grips with importing my own designs and decided to play around on a bag. I designed in canva and used some great software to convert into an embroidery design. I went with some leopard print to go with the @fabricgodmother ace cotton poplin lining and lining and added my initials. It is the most exciting process and I need to embroider everything now!

I had been wanting to make the @modern_sewing_co Day Tote for some time. I loved the pipping detail all around the bag and it was a great way to mix up leftover fabrics I had in my stash. I love the range of pockets in this bag which as you can see, has a place for everything, including kid’s book and inhaler. No more digging around in a cavern of a bag. I will be organised! Beautiful design as always from Modern Sewing Co. Classic and elevated every time. Also, loving my new pin. A moving, functioning colour wheel. Is it the coolest thing ever?

This is the latest pattern from @fabricgodmother , the Lisi dress. There is a shorter version and a blouse too. I wore this to the Stitch Festival on the first day and had so many compliments on it. I have to say, when I finished it I wasn’t sure how it would look on me but I really love it. I feel really good in this dress.

The tied bodice is shaped in an upwards V which sits really beautifully with the peplum. I loved all the lovely details to work on and remembered how much I love pin hems! I made the long sleeve but think the next one will be a long dress again but with the wider short sleeve.

The fabric is Lolita viscose crepe which, I think, is the perfect base cloth for it. It was gifted as this was a test version for the pattern testing. I think this will become my summer party dress.
