I had the pleasure of spending a few days with esteemed actor, musician and painter Geoff Morrell, recording the audiobook for Mr Blank. He played a dozen characters with great pazazz. We holed up in his basement studio dodging the sounds of butcher birds and chainsaws, chatting bout art, our favourite records and the footy. We hope you’ll enjoy listening to it as much as we did making it. The audiobook is available now on all platforms (except Spotify) and comes with a PDF of two dozen images. by @whereisdean_

A week in Lightening Ridge on Simms Hills surrounded by opal mines, castles, shanties, old trams and caravans. Bottles, beer cans and car doors are popular building materials. Sunrise over the plains, morning and evening soaks in bore baths, funky lime green caterpillars, dinner at the Bowlo, stories of murder and mayhem around the fire kept me up at night. taken in Lightning Ridge, New South Wales, Australia by @whereisdean_

I’ve always been a writer but this week I felt like a bona fide author. Visited Canberra for a chat on ABC radio. Dropped by the National Library of Australia to sign copies of Mr Blank in their bookstore and met bird watcher @mike_in_braddon. Mighty impressed by the building. Reading rooms, exhibition galleries and s p a c e to contemplate the big questions.

Buzzed to be part of this years’ Addi Road Writer’s festival. I’ll be joining a panel of fellow authors to discuss how ‘artists map cities, lives, themselves and others in their work. This can add up to a journey of understanding, if not always acceptance’. Saturday May 17th.

Mr Blank’s pen pals came from far and wide. Talented, spirited and often drop dead gorgeous, they are the stars of the suitcase story. Book launch is this Thursday, March 27th at the Criterion Hotel, corner of Pitt & Park St, Sydney. 7 pm. Downstairs Bar. Enter via Pitt Street. by @whereisdean_
