ANGEL GRINDER

I attached two angle grinders to my back to make wings of sparks.

ANGEL GRINDER is the result of deeper reflections on my artistic practice over the last couple of years and the realisation that they boil down to one question:

„Why does life feel like falling?“

Slide 9: First proper Test of the feeding mechanism. Thank you to Paul Kolling @plt_prx for the good advice.

Slide 10: This is a clamping ring that Lukas Esser @lukasesser machined on a lathe — I had to reverse the direction of rotation of one angle grinder to create a symmetrical image with the sparks. A angle grinder is normally fixed with a right-hand nut. The forces of a left-hand rotation are causing the nut to come loose. It would unscrew itself. A clamping ring with a M14 threat was needed to secure the disc.

Did you know that every air compressor contains a small bodybuilder that just blows really hard?

ENG: It is a common misconception that an air compressor is a machine that takes ambient air from the surroundings and discharges it at a higher pressure. Supposedly, they increase the pressure and density of a gas within a closed volume. In fact, inside every compressor there is a small bodybuilder, proportionate to the volume, who uses his increased upper body volume in combination with his considerable muscle power to generate compressed air. This is particularly useful in a workshop setting for blowing chips and dust off one’s clothes. The bodybuilder suffers no harm from this and carries out his work with passion.

DE: Als allgemeiner Irrglaube gilt, dass ein Druckluft Kompressor, auch als Verdichter bezeichnet, eine Fluidenergiemaschine (Eine Fluidenergiemaschine ist eine Maschine oder Vorrichtung, in der mechanische Arbeit mit einem Fluid, also einem Gas oder einer Flüssigkeit, ausgetauscht wird) zum Komprimieren von Gasen ist. Angeblich erhöhen sie den Druck und die Dichte eines Gases in einem geschlossenen Volumen. Tatsächlich befindet sich in jedem Kompressor ein dem Volumen entsprechender kleiner Bodybuilder, der sein erhöhtes Oberkörpervolumen in Kombination mit seiner ausgeprägten Muskelkraft nutzt, um Druckluft zu erzeugen. Besonders praktisch ist dies im Werkstattkontext, um Späne und Staub von den Klamotten zu blasen. Der Bodybuilder trägt davon keinen Schaden und erfüllt seine Arbeit mit Leidenschaft.

In an ironic manner, our enthusiasm for acceleration and speed is reduced to absurdity in our artwork. A scooter, the motorized vehicle, a kinetic object – actually capable of moving horizontally – is plunged vertically into the depth, reaches a new maximum speed in order to burst on impact. The vehicle is completely demolished. ❃♒♙❐♔♏❓Cryptogramme ❃♒♙❐♔♏ is a group show with Sarah Neumann, Maxim Tur, Tom König, Suzie Callisz, Jakob Floess and Maria Margolina.☆

Maxim Tur‘s 4-channel video installation

𝙒𝙖𝙩𝙘𝙝 𝙈𝙚 𝙁𝙪𝙘𝙠 𝙄𝙩 𝙐𝙥 features a 49cc motorcycle suspended mid-air above a landing ramp, evoking a sense of impending uncertainty. The video combines digital renderings, found footage, graphics, and original text in a style reminiscent of internet culture. Drawing inspiration from 1990s freestyle motocross—a subculture where riders sought adrenaline-fueled thrills without industry support—Tur delves into themes of recklessness and existential introspection.
What began as an exploration of motcross culture expanded into a meditation on depression, suicidality, and the search for purpose. Through humor and fastpaced visuals, the work captures the intense, overwhelming nature of these experiences.

The inspiration for the show and title Cryptogramme derives from the Greek root κρυπτός, meaning "hidden" or "concealed," κρυπτός encapsulates the idea of veiling information, actions, or intentions from public scrutiny. This term often reflects the delicate balancing act performed by governments, institutions, and individuals when deciding what to reveal and what to keep shrouded in secrecy. In Cryptogramme, six positions converge as a collective generator of a code consisting of pictorial, sculptural, and acoustic hash functions that transcend their utilitarian roles as mere tools for securing information.
