Founded by Amal Anaya Soliman and Tobin Ellsworth in Montpelier, Vermont, The Black Kitty is an independent fashion boutique built around individuality, self-expression and creative freedom. The Black Kitty was conceived in quiet rebellion against the idea that style must be singular, that you must choose one aesthetic, one “core,” or one box in order to belong. We reject the notion that fashion should flatten identity or force people into cliques. Instead, we believe fashion is an invitation to a party for one, where you get to express the many facets of who you are and what you feel on any given day.

Tobin Ellsworth is a DJ and producer with deep roots in underground house and electronic music culture. Over the years, he has been part of crews including Pink Mammoth and Housepitality and has performed extensively within the underground dance music scene, playing legendary parties like Doc Martin’s Sublevel and Miguel Mig’s Salted.

I’m honored and proud to support White Label and its mission to document the people, places and stories that built underground electronic music culture.
As a DJ and producer who has spent much of my life inside this community, I know how much of our culture exists because people created something simply because they lived for the music, the dance floor and each other, long before there was an industry built around it. Every generation of DJs inherits something from the people who came before us. Preserving those stories, especially from the pioneers who helped establish rave and club culture in New York, is vitaly important.
