How to heal together 👇🏻

A lot of couples get stuck in their hurt.

Cycles of arguing without resolution.

Shaming each other.

Creating home environments that harm rather than heal.

This never makes things better.

—

If you want to really heal as a couple, you need frameworks.

Ways of checking in.

Holding space for each other.

Taking action to process your emotions.

Healing your inner children.

Working on the relationship — together.

—

Going to therapy.

Processing somatically.

Identifying the root causes of your triggers.

Doing parts work or Internal family systems.

Learning breathwork and emotions lfreedo.

Using non-violent communication.

Practicing relational repair.

—

If these sound like new concepts to you, they’re worth looking up.

Having frameworks and processes to help you heal and work on the relationship together makes it so much easier.

This is the work I do with men and women.

A message to couples who are struggling 👇🏼

Please, take this all with a grain of salt.

Before you share this with your partner,

Remember that both of you have been through a lifetime of experiences, relationships, pain, and struggle that have shaped who you are.

Neither of you are perfect, nor should you be expected to be.

You both came from parents who had their own wounds, worldviews, and ways of being.

You’ve both been hurt by others and live in a world that seeks to pit people against each other in an effort to control them.

And there’s a very good chance that despite all of this,

You’re both doing your best
with what you know.

—

So as you save this post, think about it throughout your day, write a comment, or share it with someone you love,

Please remember to be patient and compassionate —with yourselves and each other.

—

For men struggling with being emotionally safe, I invite you to check out my 2-hour course on Healing the boy within.

What it means to be an emotionally safe man 👇🏻

It’s not about pushing your emotions down.

It’s not about hiding how you feel.

It’s not about conforming to how you’re “supposed to be”.

And it’s not about giving up your power.

—

It’s about being authentic and trustworthy with your emotions.

It’s about being real – with yourself and with her.

It’s letting yourself feel angry without putting it on anyone.

So that that anger doesn’t build up and become rage.

—

It’s about letting yourself laugh, cry,
and express what’s on your heart.

It’s about sharing how you really feel,
so that people know the real you.

Here’s to all the men on this path.

—

This is the path I’m on – and I help other men with it too.

If you want to learn more, I invite you to check out my 2-hour course for men in relationships : Heal the boy within.

To couples who see themselves in this 👇🏻

Not every uncomfortable feeling means something is wrong.

It just means you’re human.

—

Some things need a conversation.

Some things just need to be felt.

And some can be let go of entirely.

—

The skill is learning the difference.

And all of this starts with slowing down and grounding yourself first.

—

This is the work I do with men.

If you’d like to learn more, I invite you to check out my 2-hour course on Healing the Boy Within.

If you’re his partner reading this 👇🏻

When a man starts doing the work, it can be a lot for both of you.

He’s facing parts of himself he’s avoided for years.

And you might still be hurting from what happened before he started.

Both of those things are real.

—

His healing is his responsibility.

But how you respond to his effort can make it easier for him to keep going – or easier for him to shut down.

A lot of men have spent a lifetime feeling alone with their emotional pain.

—

This doesn’t mean carrying all his weight, or putting your own needs aside.

It means meeting his effort with honesty and grace, while doing your own work too.

—

For men ready to take responsibility for their hurt and how it affects their relationships, I invite you to check out my 2-hour course on Healing the Boy Within.

You can learn more and register via the link in my bio.

If you feel alone together 👇🏻

I’ve seen countless relationships where the “spark” has faded.

Often, along with that spark, a sense of feeling truly known by each other was lost too.

—

The modern world doesn’t teach us how to repair our sense of emotional connection.

With all of our distractions, we forget to keep attuning to one another, and to ourselves.

To rediscover our connection with our partner, we need to seek out answers.

This requires an ongoing commitment, especially to facing what’s uncomfortable.

—

The couples who I’ve seen rebuild their sense of connection made space for each other:

To be real.
To be apart.
To be together.
To be themselves.

For men who clearly sense that they haven’t been as emotionally present or supportive as they could be for her,

I invite you to check out my courses on Healing the boy within and Healing sex and intimacy.

Sometimes, we react before we even realize what we’re feeling.

We get angry and say something we regret.

We feel hurt and withdraw from our partner.

We get caught in a familiar story about ourselves, and every thought seems to reinforce it.

In those moments, our emotions can shape our behaviour before we’ve had a chance to choose.

—

One of the things we can begin to notice through meditation is the ability to pause, and choose.

To recognize when we’re off-centre.

To notice the anger, the sadness, or the story we’re telling ourselves.

And to sit with what’s there long enough to ask:

How do I want to respond? Is this a reaction or a choice?

With practice, that pause can become part of everyday life. In a difficult conversation. At work. With the people we love.

A little more awareness. A little more room to choose how we show up.

I have been this man.

I’ve been the man who doesn’t know how to open up about what he’s feeling.

Who puts on a show for everyone around him to create the illusion that everything’s fine.

While meanwhile feeling stuck and alone in a world of hurt.

—

I would be reactive, dismissive of others’ experience, and act like somebody I wasn’t.
Because it didn’t feel safe for me to ask for the help that I needed.

—

When I finally started asking for help, it felt really scary. I didn’t want to be a burden to the people I love.

But whether it was with my family, in a men’s group, or with a therapist, almost every time I practiced speaking my truth, I was met with support. This was a huge relief for me.

Slowly, my inner dialogue started to change. I began giving myself permission to be real with people. To feel ashamed without hiding it. To face my fear and trust that I would be better off in the end.

In some ways, I’m still working on this process. On using my voice, upholding my boundaries, and asking for what I need.

But I’m a lot further along than when I started. And I’m deeply grateful for the freedom this has given me.

For men who can relate to what I’m sharing and could use a path forward, I invite you to check out my course on Healing the boy within.

A lot of men struggle to be present.

We live in a world that profits from our distraction.

Even this post can pull your attention away from your feeling body, your circulating breath, and the living environment that surrounds us.

But distraction isn’t only something that happens to us. Sometimes, we seek it out.

We reach for our phones when uncomfortable feelings arise.

We dismiss our partner’s feedback before letting it sink in.

We stay busy so we don’t have to sit with ourselves.

Over time, these habits can leave us living on autopilot, reacting rather than choosing.

—

Meditation is a practice of paying attention.

Of noticing when we’ve drifted, and coming back.

To our bodies.
To this moment.
To what matters.

With practice, we can create more space between an impulse and an action, and choose how we want to show up.

On healing this pattern 👇🏻

As men, a lot of us put pressure on ourselves to figure everything out and have all the answers – especially in our relationships.

Like we just need to “solve the problem” rather than being real and honest about what we feel, and letting it be raw and imperfect.

But this isn’t reasonable or fair, and often it’s deeply rooted in shame.

—

For most of the men that work with me, there’s a long history of emotional suppression.

This makes it really hard for us to open up, especially when there’s pressure or when we don’t feel safe.

—

We need to learn how to be gentle with ourselves, and with our emotions.

We have to spend time building emotional safety within ourselves, so that we can develop the capacity to share it with our partners.

The men who keep avoiding this stuff stay stuck in their addictions and avoidant patterns.

The ones who do the work intentionally and consistently find healing and a deeper connection with their partners.

—

For couples or men struggling with this pattern, I invite you to check out my course on Healing the boy within.

To the men reading 👇🏻

I can remember being emotionally shut down and lacking empathy for my girlfriend as early as when I was in high school.

She felt misunderstood and like I didn’t care about her feelings.

—

A decade later, a different partner, and nothing had changed.

This is the case for a lot of us as men.

Until we sit down, truly examine our wounds, and learn emotional healing and grounding practices, we keep repeating the same hurtful patterns.

Simply put, we repeat what we don’t repair.

—

For men who’ve been trying to “be better” but keep hitting a wall, you likely need new and more up to date tools.

My heal the boy within course teaches breathwork and mindfulness techniques, along with many of the latest evidence-based clinical models for emotional healing.

This work can change your life and your relationship.

It has certainly changed mine.

How to heal these wounds👇🏻

When it comes to sexuality, a lot of us have never been given a safe space to talk about our inner experience.

Even if our parents did give us “the talk” or we had sex education in school, our culture shames sex and lacks emotional nuance around it.

What’s more, many men have spent far more hours watching porn than thinking and feeling consciously about their relationship with themselves.

—

The reality is, in order to transform our relationship to sex, we need to meet ourselves on a deeper level.

This work is about learning to notice feelings, impulses, and stories we carry around sex and intimacy.
It is about practicing emotional honesty with ourselves and the people we trust.

And it is about learning to regulate our nervous systems and process our old emotional pain.

This is some of the deepest work a man can do on himself.

—

If you’re interested in learning more, I teach these concepts and more in my courses on Healing the boy within and Transforming sex and intimacy.
