Tokyo was the very first stop on the Why Wait? World Tour in 2017. It is the first city from the trip that I’ve returned to, this time solo. The city is a study in contrasts: bustling, modern, and so much neon but rooted in ancient traditions; masses of humanity, yet calm, quiet and orderly. So too are my emotions: both Ruben’s presence and absence are profound and I find myself simultaneously sad and comforted.

I’ve spent the better part of the past year trying to balance grieving and living, missing the love of my life and wanting to make him oh so proud of me. I have been apprehensive to post too much that skews the balance towards “living” for fear of how it would “look.” It’s taken time, but I realize that I don’t give a f*ck how it looks. Ruben and I created this Instagram account (and now defunct blog) together to make a point: Why Wait? World Tour. Why wait, indeed. Time isn’t a given. Sadly, I know this firsthand. But I also know that Ruben would want me to continue what we started: Don’t wait. Do cool shit. Live life. I’ve been quietly doing it in the background for the past year, but I am going to get a little louder about it now. Next stop: Japan with @goodpace.jp In the meantime, here are a few photos from earlier adventures. by @whywaitworldtour

On the eve of the one year anniversary of the death of @rubenmillor - my best friend, my love, my penguin, my husband, my fixer, my protector, my favorite person - I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank all of you who have supported me this year. You have loved me, supported me, hugged me, fed me (and brought me cake!), motivated me, brought me joy and tried to fill the huge hole in my heart. Alta Vía 2, Days 6-10. Sun, rain, fog, hail. Constantly changing eco-systems with the ascents and descents. I’ve found a few beautiful, peaceful spots with endless views for Ruben to enjoy for eternity.
