The Ffwng has begun!

We can’t believe we’ve made it the fourth issue of our annual photography zine inspired by the outdoors and those glorious ffwngtastic mushrooms! This wouldn’t happen without you, literally, so grab your phones, cameras and head out in search of those little things.

If you’re new here, Ffwng is a photo challenge where we invite you to show off your fungi finds with us. To enter, just share your pics on your Instagram profile tagging @wildbarc in your photo and tag #ffwng2026 in the caption. You have until Monday 30th November to share your photos then we’ll pick our favourites to feature in the printed Ffwng zine, and one special submission will feature on the front cover of issue 4! There are prizes to be won too!

Like every year, all profits from the sale of the zine will go directly to charity. This year we have chosen Search and Rescue Dogs South Wales, a dedicated 100% volunteer led team who work tirelessly to support search and rescue operations across South Wales. We’ve had the pleasure of meeting some of the dogs in the shop, and can confirm their celebrity status is A list!

If you’d like to take part then check out the blog in bio for the full details, need to knows and more about our chosen charity.

Let the Ffwng commence! 🍄 by @wildbarc

The perfect shop on the perfect day out @wildbarc

Wildbarc wave the flag for indies more than most and my god their shop in Crickhowell is a hidden gem! Full of dog and human goodies for your next hike, adventure or just sit down moment infront of the fire! Made by hand and made with love @wildbarc really do give you and your dog something to shout (bark) about.

We were lucky enough to travel sustainably to Crickhowell using @transport_wales by jumping on the train to Abergavenny and then hopped on a quick bus journey up the road.

It was the perfect way to sit back relax and enjoy the stunning scenery that we have around us in South South Wales. Easy to tap on and tap off it’s a no brainer if you are looking to travel to your next day trip destination.

Keep your eyes peeled for the next OSA X @wildbarc collab cos it will be coming in soon ish 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Thanks all and please check em out they are the best! taken in Crickhowell by @wildbarc

Some Collies are born floofy. Others achieve floofiness. And some have floofiness thrust upon them by Welsh coastal winds strong enough to strip paint.

Happy Windswept Won’t Look Wednesday - because sometimes you need to relinquish creative control of your personal appearance and accept a fierce wind up your butt in the interests of herding beached life buoys!

Fortunately, the one thing the wind can’t dismantle is my immaculate taste in accessories.

BODHI10 for a @wildbarc collar that’s going nowhere even when your dignity is holding on by a toebean nail 😬

Patches are pretty cool right?

Our collection here at the shop is growing with makers and shakers in the embroidery world! Ideal to add some flare to a blanket, jacket, the dog’s harness or anywhere else you can think of. Also ideal for covering up that hole that snagged on that unexpected thorn bush whilst bushwhacking in your favourite jacket! 👌

Available in store, so pop on by. by @wildbarc

We love discovering old publications about walks, travel, tourist guides, the mountains and maps of the past. Every now and then, you strike gold and find a first edition tucked away at the bottom of a charity shop box. But honestly, that’s not really the point.

These little pockets of the past offer a glimpse into how our landscapes have changed, the people who walked these trails before us, and just how much the world is moving. They’re little time capsules, and we reckon they deserve more than gathering dust on a shelf.

So, we’re going to start scanning some of our finds and sharing them here from time to time. Old maps, forgotten stories, vintage illustrations and photographs that deserve a second look.

First up is The Ascent of Snowdon by E. G. Rowland, first published in 1956 by Cidron Press in Criccieth. A guide to Yr Wyddfa, the highest mountain in Cymru, it explores the mountain and its approaches, with illustrations by Welsh artist Jonah Jones.

Jones was an artist, writer and sculptor whose work often celebrated the Welsh landscape. The book also features photographs credited to Eric L. King, about whom we’ve struggled to find much information. If anyone knows more about him, we’d love to hear from you.

There’s something special about seeing familiar places through someone else’s eyes, years before we walked them ourselves.

Do you collect old maps, books or photographs of the outdoors? We’d love to know what treasures you’ve found. by @wildbarc

Something every first timer to a Martingale Collar should know👆

For centuries the fundamentals of a Martingale Collar have remained the same. A timeless tool that is minimal in design and functional in its delivery.

In short, a Martingale Collar consists of a main loop with an adjuster to allow the collar to go gently over your dog’s head and tighten perfectly in the widest part of their neck, usually the middle. The second loop is often referred to as the control loop, that’s the smaller one with a D-ring to attach your dog’s lead. Pretty simple right? Absolutely! Used correctly there is nothing intimidating about a Martingale Collar and once you get used to using one it becomes second nature.

We’re in the process of pouting together simple guides for using a Martingale Collar correctly and something we often get asked is “which loop does my dog’s head go through?” so we thought we’d start with this one.

Feel free to drop us a message via our website or head over to our DM’s if you have any questions about this type of collar, we’re always here to help.

From the streets of Bosnia to the doors of Crickhowell

This is Ben, our resident doorman (he gave himself the position when he visited with his humans this morning)

The good thing about Ben is, if your name’s not down… you’re still coming in.

He takes his job very seriously.

Mostly the greeting people part. The security side… not so much. 😂

Doors open and everyone’s welcome ✌️ taken in Crickhowell - Gateway To The Brecon Beacons by @wildbarc

The traffic grip was a very important and intentional element. It was designed because we’ve been in those moments ourselves.

Whether you’re passing another dog, walking through a busy town, navigating a stile, hiking through a field of livestock, or simply want your dog close by, having a dedicated traffic handle gives you instant control exactly when you need it.

Every feature on Trail Line exists for a reason. We don’t add things for the sake of it, every detail comes from real adventures, real dogs, and real experience.

September was a fun month! Mostly highs, little lows 😎

We’ll be heading off grid next week from the Monday 5th but will be back and fully charged up to open shop door on Saturday 10th. Just a little reminder that all online orders will ship shortly after we return.

We’ve left you some homework whilst we’re away, with ffwng finally started! 🍄‍🟫 by @wildbarc
