Still here! Still throwing, still rolling in the hills and lurking on the gram. Thanks to you all for keeping me chipper with your lovely posts as the world teeters. Sometimes Instagram seems so self indulgent, but then I see art, and joy, beautiful places and all your lovely faces and it does help. I keep coming back to this thought from Rebecca Solnit written by some clever soul in the loos of Refugee Community Kitchen in Calais (see photo). BTW, 20% of all my pot sales still go to supporting their amazing work in Calais & London - you can also donate directly. Not politics, just food. This is Vikki. I don’t have a sister but I do have a cousin who shares my history, my nose, my impatience, my amateur twitching, my socialist tendencies, my life-long poor skincare regime, my love of Tim, good wine and all creatures, my habit of driving too fast and of sitting very still and staring at the hills. She’s taller and blonder than me, but she can’t have everything.

Vikki is kinda American and lives deep in Northern California with horses, dogs, wild turkeys and hummingbirds. At the age of 66 she finally decided to claim her British citizenship because, well…

So we took her to Stoke! We hugged a thousand pots, peered up vast chimneys haunted by child labour, stroked painted odes to the decaying works at Spode, watched lapwings nesting in the lee of Jodrell Bank, picnicked in bluebells, swam with swans, mainlined fizz next to the Abba-tribute themed hen party, bothered dogs, filled our boots at the excellent Clay College shop, ate dosas for breakfast and drank tea out of chipped porcelain in junk shops.

She’s always been part of me. Now she’s also one of us.

Seven weeks cat-sitting for friends in and around the Wye valley. Aga gently sputtering, pussies snoring with bellies full of mice, all day Bloody Marys, jigsaws quietly finding their resolution guided by many visiting hands.

Occasional bikes, occasional city jaunts, occasional Trump.

Two bags of clay lumped up the hill, two tulipieres marched down.

Thank you dear Shoreham for all your love and support and for clearing me out of ramen bowls and mugs in a jiffy. You’re all beautiful people, with excellent taste.

Thanks to Charlie & JoJo for being fabulous studio buddies, to all the dogs who visited (you know who you are) and to all the friends who’ve dined, sung and solsticed with us.

Hope to see those I haven’t managed to chink glasses with very soon and wishing you all a restful and rooted one.

My mum’s favourite mug 💓 ⭕️

Tickled pink.

If you’re free & around, come and listen to the Bee’s Mouth Choir singing folky festive songs at Brighton Pavillon this morning at 10.45. The flu hasn’t smitten us all.

Will be opening up the studio in Shoreham after that, should be there lunchtime(ish) selling pots, felted beauty & doodles.

The weather broke yesterday afternoon and we got a tree at Spithandle Nursery, and stroked the goats, who have beautifully warm horns.

This morning the jackdaws, rooks & gulls are boisterous and the sun is trying to break through. It might be a good one.
