The day is finally here!!! Meet… The Girlies!

In April, my team and I finished THE GIRLIES, a zany, slapstick short shot on 16mm film. Produced by a female led crew of silly people, THE GIRLIES is a 21st century love letter to silent film, physical comedy, and analog filmmaking. To call this project a labor of love would be a vast understatement – this was a labor of pure joy and care, made possible by the greatest A-team of friends and collaborators I’ve ever had the pleasure of working alongside.

I’ve wanted to share this project for a long time, and I’m so proud to announce that THE GIRLIES will be screening for the first time this Wednesday, December 11th at 9:30 pm as part of the HollyShorts Monthly Screening Series! To wrap out Women’s History Month, we have one more spotlight from an awesome filmmaker - meet SAVANNAH SOMERVILLE, our make-up artist from Baby Fever!

Savannah Somerville is a Portland-based makeup artist who specializes in film, commercial, and special-effects makeup. She is a graduate of the Art of Makeup and a licensed cosmetologist. Throughout school Savannah was focused on high fashion editorial makeup, but after her first day working on a film set, her love for filmmaking, and film makeup was cemented.

Savannah loves the creativity and camaraderie that comes from the filmmaking process, and especially loves being able to help convey a character through makeup. She loves working with productions that tell impactful stories from voices that aren’t often highlighted in the media. Savannah’s latest narrative projects include a comedy sketch pilot and the 1970’s prom short ‘Baby Fever’.

In her free time, Savannah loves to paint, bake, go on roadtrips, thrift and hang out with her dog. by @wildwoodlaneproductions

Speaking of @angelesthefilm…we’re continuing to celebrate Women’s History Month HANNAH FAY FOLIGNO, the show-stopping co-writer, co-director and STAR of Angeles! ☀️

Hannah Fay Foligno is a filmmaker from Hoboken, NJ. As a child, Foligno always had dreams of making movies, and those dreams are now a reality with the help of the incredible people at Wildwood Lane Productions! While at UCLA, Foligno studied English literature and fell in love with storytelling even more. She then decided to write her own films with her writing partner Alexis and build their stories (or as they call them, "brain children") from the ground up with the most amazing people.

The title of "filmmaker" is all encompassing for Foligno. In her short MATURITY (2020) and her upcoming project ANGELES, she can be found acting, writing, directing, producing, and editing; there is not an area that Foligno hasn't dipped her toe into. Ranging from comedy to drama, Foligno aims to tell coming of age stories about young complex women who aren't even close to having all the answers. If an audience can empathize with her characters, even if they don't always make the right choices, her mission is complete. In her free time, you can find Foligno happily sitting at a desk reading and writing with a tea in her hand. by @wildwoodlaneproductions
