The start of this year has felt slow and quiet for me — more gradual and intentional than grand opening. A tender and potent mixture of grief and hope. This feels like the kind of beginning we write our way into. What about you? What does this new beginning feel like for you?

I haven’t been on here much recently. The winter season for me has called for quiet and rest, a turning inward.

But on a walk the other day, I looked up and saw a palm tree and remembered a question someone once asked me. Maybe the point was never about shade. I couldn’t help but write about it.

How are you these days? What is winter asking of you? What wants to be written right now?

When something overwhelming happens, our bodies hold the heat of it long after the moment is over. The mind loops, the heart races, the nervous system stays braced. We don’t always have language for what we’re carrying — we just feel it.

Writing can change that.

When we write, we turn emotion into shape. We give the chaos edges. We slow the story down enough to see it, feel it, and begin to understand what’s happening inside us. Writing lets us be both the one who lived the moment and the gentle witness who can hold it.

This week, if something feels tender or tangled, try writing it down — not to fix it, but to let it move through you. Your body will thank you for the exhale.

✍️ What wants to be written today?

As I was sweeping up broken glass and taking stock of the damage from a recent break-in, I looked outside and saw that one of our cactus had bloomed — a huge, luminous white flower.
For a moment, I completely forgot how prickly life can be.

Writing — and life — remind me of this over and over:
beauty and pain, softness and strength, coexist.

This week, write from the place in you that’s learning softness again.

Turning life into art doesn’t mean polishing the hard parts until they shine.
It means holding them in your hands long enough to see what they’re really made of.
It means giving shape to what has no shape yet.

Writing can’t always fix what’s broken — but it can hold it, name it, and help us breathe around it.
That’s what art does: it makes the unbearable a little more bearable.

What in your life is asking to be turned into art today?

Sometimes what we search for tells the story of what we’re living through.

What questions have been living inside you lately—
spoken or unspoken,
typed into Google at 2am,
whispered only to yourself?

Write from there.
Write what you’re really searching for.

✨ Writers — what’s saving your creativity this week?

Mine: silent community writes with @amherstwriters, fall sunlight, homemade chai, an evening spent laughing, live music and poetry performed by middle and high school students, and surrendering to the creative process.

I saw Sheng Wang perform last night at a tiny comedy club as he preps for his next Netflix special, and I laughed for an entire hour. It reminded me that good writing often begins with simply noticing what’s weird and wild about everyday life.

Like the fact that I paid money to sit in a dark room full of strangers and laugh. The club smelled like a bathroom — and still, I don’t remember the last time I felt that happy. The only other place I’ve seen that many people smiling and laughing in recent memory was at my daughter’s preschool fall performance. And to be honest, it wasn’t very good.

It was intoxicating to sit among people laughing at the things that make us human — the strange, tender, ridiculous stuff we all do without much thought.

So the next time one of those weird and wild thoughts crosses your mind, write it down. See where it takes you. You might just end up on stage in a club that smells like a toilet, making people laugh.

I don’t love editing my own work — it’s a roller coaster of emotions for me (maybe my Gemini rising at play). But I’m feeling so inspired by WriteOn! November with @amherstwriters that I actually put my butt in the seat and edited for an hour today. The chai helped too ☕️

I couldn’t join a live session today—Day 2—because, well, life with two young kids. But after participating yesterday, I can already feel the momentum that comes from writing alongside a community all working toward a common goal. So I did the work on my own time.

It’s not too late to join if you’re craving some camaraderie and inspiration. ✨
Link’s in my bio — come write with us.

When we stop trying to control the writing, it often shows us something we didn’t even know we knew. ✨
This is why I love intuitive writing—why Wild Writes exists.
Write first. Understand later.
There’s wisdom waiting in your words.

Where my fellow writer-witches at? 🖋️✨

Writers are witches with pens—brewing stories, stirring feelings, conjuring words from nothing.

Grab your pen, witches, and write for five minutes.

Here’s your prompt:
I’m haunting... 👻

Tag a fellow writer-witch who might want to cast a few words today. 🖤
