Another year, another OUTSTANDING HOBY Seminar.

I’m so thankful to have been given my HOBY family. And each year, I get to share it with a group of young leaders who have an insatiable desire to change the world. This year, I led Group 19 with @nataliemurphy13134 , and I’m so proud of the young men and women they each are and continue to become. To see them come timid, confused, and unaware of their potential, and watch them leave with enthusiasm, confidence, and a head that seeks the best for others, it is truly something special.

HOBY is not something you simply attend. You become it. So welcome to the HOBY family!

Remember that you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. Carsyn, Will, Carter, Blakely, Kendra, Rosalie, Gabe, and Jason (Jonas), you will hold a very dear and special place in my heart. In a world where you can choose to be anything, be yourself. Everyone else is taken. taken in HOBY - Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership by @will._.driver

Goodbye UNA 💜🦁
@north_alabama
📸: @amber_sandvig

So many stories. So many friends.
So many times I wished it wouldn’t end.

So many failures. So many wins.
So many times I had to get back up and try again.

There was pain and there was strife
But so many of my closest friends brought into my life.

From freshman year’s scandalous tales
To senior years final closing bells

There was staff who supported and peers who held
Me to the highest standards. Even when tears in my eyes swelled.

From hearing Leo the lions roar outside in History 101
To seeing his journey completed. Like me, his time at UNA was done.

I soaked in every moment. And the faces I’ll never see again.
They each were a building block in my life. Forever a distant friend.

I did the things and did college with no regret.
But there was one journey I hadn’t completed yet.

The walk of a lifetime. A four and a half year track.
Blood sweat and tears line the pathway where I carry onward never looking back.

Across an illuminated stage I am to step.
One foot after another. A promise to myself I kept.

To cross In a purple robe, adorned with cords and stoles.
Each one denoting a challenging but fulfilling role.

And every step forward toward the presidents shaking hand.
The light of my college days slowly starts dim.

But the shadow it casts reeks of laughter and good times.
A time when there was so much good, bad was far behind.

A time I cannot go back to, but if I could I would.
A time when we took every risk and chance not knowing if we should.

So to UNA my dear. You oldest friend.
Thank you for the music and the nights that would never end.

Thank you to my friends who they always will be .
Because Without you. There would not be a me.

And as my tassel moves and I receive my degree.
No longer a student. Alumnus forever to be.

Now my journey is completed. My name has been signed on the dotted line.
But forever and ever my heart will echo the refrain: Roar Lions! 🦁 taken in University of North Alabama by @will._.driver

What’s better than six… seven 😏

@alabamahoby thank you so much for such an amazing weekend. I was so lucky to be able to facilitate Group 7! If you don’t know what HOBY is, just know that it is my favorite weekend of the year. Watching my group go from shy and reserved members of their schools to unapologetic and confident young leaders was something truly awe inspiring. Whether it was participating in energizers, learning to trust each other, and figuring out who they are as a leader, it was a blessing to be able to sit back and see them do it all. I love these kiddos to death. They make me feel so optimistic about the future of our world. In a time that is so dark and hateful, it is nice to know that kids like these eight will one day change that all.

One thing I specifically prayed for was for God’s light to shine through me. And, while we had our anonymous tapping ceremony, I was grateful to see my prayer be answered. To see how my presence affected so many people in a positive way was something that brought me to tears. It was so moving to see that in such a short time, we were able to form a bond I know will last forever.

As I was driving back from Troy, I was an ugly crying mess. But, I thought of two things. How blessed are we in life to have things that hurt so bad when we have to say goodbye? And second I thought, why can’t life always be like HOBY?

To my amazing Jr. Facilitator, Sam, keep on shining. Your passion and love for everyone was so evident. You have genuinely been so amazing to me and all of HOBY. Whatever city you decide to redo and improve, remember that there are 9 of us absolutely cheering you on. Group seven forever and always. Thank you so much.

To my sweet, red, and BOLD Group Seven, thank you for changing my life. I can’t wait to see you grow and prosper. Remember to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and to give grace often. You are the kind of people the world needs: now and tomorrow. And like I always say, live a life worth dying for! I love you guys to the dining hall and back!

With that, I would officially like to nominate Leigh Ashton Nuss for the 2028 presidential election representing the HOBY Party. taken in Alabama HOBY by @will._.driver

Last night, my time on UPC came to an end. Though a rather melancholy time, I am reminded that it is a blessing to have something that genuinely hurts to leave. The past two years have been nothing short of an answered prayer. I have seen the work of God in my life through the individuals in this post. I grew close to them, became a family with them, and then I watched as each one blossomed in their roles and went through life. Every person in these pictures has been nothing short of a best friend to me. They have seen me at my worst and they have seen me at my best. To them, I would like to say, thank you.

To the incomparable Rebecca Bush, thank you. You have sacrificed so much for a whole mess of college students. You have put blood, sweat, and tears into your role. You show up when no one else does. You carry yourself humbly. You live life so full of Jesus, his radiance shines so bright. Thank you for taking a chance on a crazy, wild, and clueless sophomore. With the teams you chose, I was able to be molded into someone who listens to all, loves all, and cares for everyone. I am so indebted to you for your kindness. You alone are a testament to God’s hand in my life. You will always be remembered.

To the 2023-2024 team, thank you for taking me in! We all were strangers walking into the middle of the woods and we walked out family. From the many events held, the tears shed, the victories won, the battles lost, we did it together. We grew so close and loved on each other. You will always be in my heart.

To the 2024-2025 team, I love you. You all were amazing. Though at times we felt like we were running a business, we always made time to laugh, have fun, and goof off. I cannot thank you each enough for how much you changed my life. I love you each so much. We planned the heck out of some events. You lifted me when defeated, and celebrated when we won. We were just some strangers playing Signs in a banquet hall. Now, I can say I have so many lifelong friends. Keep doing you. Keep coming up with crazy ideas. And, never forget that I am always one call away.

Where do I even begin? This moment feels like the culmination of everything. From the late nights, the laughs, the memories, the connections I’ve made, helping plan the Homecoming Spirit Challenge to now being crowned Homecoming King, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. To the sisters of @adpi_una , thank you for standing by me, for your endless support and love. I couldn’t have done this without you. It’s not just about a crown, but about all the moments that have led up to this, the friendships, and the spirit of this campus that I’ll carry with me forever. I’m so incredibly honored.
