Wow to the show @davidpetersengallery and I let loose just a few weeks past. DPG REC became its own living and breathing response to this doozy of a time in our lives. Took me a minute to regroup and reflect. Collaborative efforts are awesome. I am so grateful to all of the artists whose work we were allowed to work with. The concise vision and formal acumen of each individual work contributes itself to an unexpected whole that is far more cerebral and poignant than I expected. In the coming days I’ll say more on individual works but for now I leave it to this beautiful artist list and some install shots! Lots of love

Kicked off yesterday’s day of opening festivities with a beautiful run. Amazing to take in and feel the spirit of Alex, Rene and George with friends as we ran thru together. @davidpetersengallery

This is Wing Young Huie’s portrait of the Kids Cook Program at Loring Elementary in North Minneapolis from the year 2000. It’s a fantastic @wingyounghuie photograph, and it’s going to be up at this group show at @davidpetersengallery opening this Saturday. The show is called DPG Rec, a tribute to the summertime city rec center. It’s curated by David and my guy @willenbringjesse. I spoke with the two of them about the show, about the idea of the summer in the city rec center, and why recreation with your neighbors is such an important concept, especially this summer, especially in our city. The opening is at 2 tomorrow—there will be art and hot dogs. The link to the convo is in my bio. taken in Loring Elementary School by @willenbringjesse

Posting again out of sheer enthusiasm!

Opening this Saturday in Minneapolis! 2-4p

Co-curated and produced a show with @davidpetersengallery

Inspired by tragedy, community, sport and the work we have turned the gallery into our own version of a rec center. Starting off with a 5K run that starts at 26th and Nicollet at 10a followed by coffee donuts and a day of many activities including screen printing, cards, dice and a bbq.

Gonna be a good one.

Lots of love and such big thanks to all of the artists for contributing amazing work and coming along for this ride!

This summer, at David Petersen Gallery, we’re approaching the gallery as a community center. Less a space of static display than a site of shared use and activity. As a space for gathering, improvisation and exchange, both the exhibition and individual works encapsulate solidarity, strength and curiosity. Following the exhausting and traumatic winter of battling ICE, protecting our neighbors, and mourning Renée Good and Alex Pretti, the gallery will function not as a place of explicit protest but as a representation of what art can do to motivate, empower and shine joy on us as humans.

Pat Oleszko is inspired and it is inspiring.

Sena didn’t know the dress she made on Sunday was going to be so on point and so Pat. They had such an inspiring conversation and wow, that ruled too. Pat gave Sena lots of great tips.

Lots of GOOD ART

Thanks Sohrab and thanks Sculpture Center for making this awesomeness happen.

What a year, right? How about a sweet treat to sweeten your day…

Sena is selling Girl Scout Cookies with Troop 2140 in Bed-Stuy, taking her first steps toward her dream of running her own business! Selling cookies teaches her valuable skills, from goal-setting to money management—all while supporting her troop’s adventures. Let’s help her sell her goal of 300 boxes of cookies!

Her troop is already making a difference, hosting a toy drive at the children’s hospital, running an annual clothing drive, and taking a group trip to the Girl Scouts upstate campgrounds.

Every box sold goes right back into supporting these young leaders! Link in bio—thank you! 💚✨ taken in Brooklyn, New York by @willenbringjesse
