STORYTIME! Yesterday, the great horror bookstore and waystation Dark Delicacies @darkdelhorror in Burbank closed its brick and mortar store for the last time. I have a lot of fond memories of the shop, but there are two very special ones to celebrate the great people that are Sue and Del.

I have only had two book signings in my life and they were both at Dark Delicacies.

In 2010 after too many years of talking about it, I finally got my act together to self-publish a collection of my skull drawings. And I nervously took a few over to Dark Delicacies and asked if they would be interested in having it in the store. As much as they liked it, and for many good reasons, they could not actually stock it on the regular.

HOWEVER, Sue and Del invited me to have a signing at the store and gave me a table and a sign with my name on it and I sat in the store and signed my little self-published book for friends and strangers, just the same as if it was a “real” book. It was a tremendous kindness.

Years later I ran into my friend Eric Miller @ragingeric at the Pasadena New Balance store, of all places. After the success of his first anthology “Hell Comes to Hollywood” Eric was collecting new stories for the sequel, and asked me if I wanted to submit a story. I thought he was joking though he was not. So I did, and Eric liked it enough to select it for the anthology. Thank you Eric. I am grateful to this day. Coffee is on me.

So in October of 2014, there was a book signing at Dark Delicacies, and I sat there with Del (a great author as well as book seller!) and Eric and the other “real” horror authors and laughed and signed books and hung out. For the second time, I was a member of that magic club.

Thank you Del and Sue for making a special place, and for inviting me to be a tiny part of it.

ps: If you get this far, odds are you have ‘Memento Mori’ as well as my other books. But if not, send me a DM and I can hook you up.
