You just heard me break down how one of my clients went from 29K → 170K in cybersecurity…

AND she is just one of MANY that have done the EXACT same thing!

So here’s what most IT professionals get wrong when they try to make the same jump into Cybersecurity:

1. It’s not a lack of intelligence.

2. It’s not a lack of potential or willingness to learn.

3. It’s the lack of real, verifiable cybersecurity experience, which is the only thing hiring managers are looking for in this market.

THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM WE SOLVE!

Inside our live 24/7 virtual Security Operations Center (VSOC), we train IT Support professionals how to:

🔹 Investigate live alerts (no simulated labs)
🔹 Respond to real threats (real-time attacks)
🔹 Use tools like CrowdStrike, Defender, Splunk
🔹 Build detection rules and automation playbooks
🔹 Get mentored by seasoned security engineers
🔹 Own experience you can actually put on a resume

This is how you escape the IT/Desktop Support trap and break into handsome six-figure cybersecurity roles without cert-stacking, overpriced bootcamps or wasting anymore time.

👇 Follow me to start learning the system and comment “VSOC” if you’re ready to jump in and secure your future in Cyberspace today!

STOP USING THE SAME RESUME FOR EVERY CYBERSECURITY JOB 👇🏽

When applying for cybersecurity jobs, one mistake you want to avoid is using the same generic resume for every position.

On Episode 2 of @breach1teach1, cybersecurity engineer @williamtjsims of @cythority breaks down how to approach your job search and why tailoring your resume to the roles you’re applying for is so important.

Before you even start applying, you need to identify the specific roles you want to target, understand what skills, tools, and experience employers are looking for, and then tailor your resume to that.

This may mean going through various job descriptions, taking notes on the qualifications employers are looking for, and using tools to help improve your resume.

For example, if you’re applying for a SOC Analyst position, your resume should highlight your experience with security monitoring, alert investigations, and incident response.

Whereas if you’re applying for a Cyber Threat Intelligence position, your resume should focus more on threat research, IOC analysis, and intelligence reporting.

The main goal is to make sure your resume clearly shows how your experience, skills, and accomplishments align with the position you’re applying for.

And remember, recruiters are reviewing hundreds of applications, so you want to make sure it’s easy for them to understand why you are qualified for the role.

You don’t necessarily need to rewrite your entire resume for every application, but you should take the time to tailor it to the specific position.

And as you gain more experience, you can even start creating separate resumes for different cybersecurity roles or tailoring them specifically to the companies you’re interested in.

WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO GIVE UP TO GET WHAT YOU WANT?

A great mentor of mine once told me, “To get what you’ve never had, you have to do what you’ve never done.”

When you’re working toward a career in cybersecurity or any other goal, there are going to be sacrifices you have to make along the way.

For me, a lot of those sacrifices started in high school when I first began my cybersecurity journey.

On Episode 2 of @breach1teach1, I talked about the sacrifices I specifically made during my senior year of high school.

During my senior year, I was balancing being a lead intern at @cythority, playing two sports at the highest level in California, and maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

With everything I had going on, I had to make decisions about how I spent my time because I knew I wanted to build a career in cybersecurity.

Some of those sacrifices included not going to parties or football games and spending less time hanging out with my friends during lunch.

A lot of my lunch breaks involved being in the library, doing my schoolwork, and getting things done for the program I was in.

I even almost skipped prom, but my parents made sure I went, and I’m glad they did!

Everybody’s sacrifices are going to look different, but you have to ask yourself what you’re trying to accomplish and what you’re willing to give up to get there.

You can’t keep making excuses about the time you have because it’s up to you to make the most of it.

Like my dad always tells me, “You can’t have your cake and eat it too.”

You don’t have to give up everything you enjoy, but you do have to be intentional with your time and understand that reaching your goals may require making some tough decisions along the way.

Don’t believe the hype: More AI = More Cybersecurity

COMMENT “VSOC” and I’ll send you the exact path IT pros use to move into a Cybersecurity roles👇

If you’re in helpdesk or sysadmin, you’re closer than you think. The gap usually isn’t talent. It’s proof you can work a live incident.

Here’s the exact roadmap:

1️⃣ Learn the SOC workflow: alert → triage → log pivot → escalate or close

2️⃣ Get hands-on with the real stack: SIEM (Splunk / Sentinel), EDR (CrowdStrike), SOAR

3️⃣ Build operational experience: real incidents, threat hunts, threat intel reports. Not just home labs

4️⃣ Rebrand yourself: an ATS-ready résumé + LinkedIn that reads like an analyst, not a ticket-closer

5️⃣ Get interview-ready: walk through an incident end to end, out loud, with confidence

That’s exactly what we do inside the VSOC Incubator: hands-on work in a real 24/7 SOC, plus résumé and interview preparation.

HANDS ON EXPERIENCE MATTERS IN CYBERSECURITY 👇🏽

When starting your journey in cybersecurity, make sure you prioritize gaining hands on experience.

On Episode 2 of @breach1teach1, cybersecurity engineer @williamtjsims of @cythority and I discuss the importance of gaining hands on experience when trying to break into cybersecurity.

Whether that’s through internships, projects, home labs, or platforms like TryHackMe and LetsDefend, find ways to get your hands dirty and apply what you’re learning.

Hands on experience gives you the opportunity to learn the tools used on the job, understand what the work actually involves, and build experience you can speak to during interviews.

I’m not saying certifications and degrees aren’t important because they definitely help build your credibility.

But having those qualifications along with hands on experience allows you to do more than just tell an interviewer what you know.

You can actually walk them through the projects you’ve completed, the tools you’ve used, the problems you’ve encountered, and how you solved them.

Another candidate might have more certifications or a degree that you don’t have, but being able to demonstrate your skills and communicate your experience can make a difference in who gets the job.

At the end of the day, it’s not just about what you have on paper, but also what you can actually do and how well you can speak to it.

GETTING INTO CYBERSECURITY REQUIRES A PLAN 👇🏽

When trying to get into cybersecurity, you always hear about getting certifications, earning a degree, or attending a boot camp to gain experience.

And while those things can help, one thing that often gets overlooked is having a structured plan to understand what you need to learn to qualify for these jobs and then taking action on that plan.

On Episode 2 of @breach1teach1, cybersecurity engineer @williamtjsims of @cythority breaks down his 5E Formula for Success and how you can apply it to cybersecurity, your career, and other areas of your life.

Here are the five E’s:

1️⃣ Exposure

Expose yourself to different opportunities, people, and career paths to understand what’s available to you.

2️⃣ Education

Once you find something that interests you, start learning about it through courses, books, podcasts, mentors, and other resources.

3️⃣ Execution

Put what you’re learning into practice through projects, internships, or other opportunities to gain experience.

4️⃣ Evolution

As you continue learning and applying your knowledge, you’ll naturally begin to grow, improve your skills, and gain experience.

5️⃣ Empowerment

Over time, the knowledge and experience you’ve gained will give you confidence, create more opportunities for yourself, and put you in a position to help others do the same.

The biggest takeaway I got from this conversation is that growth is a process, whether that’s in cybersecurity, your career, or life in general.

You have to understand what’s out there, educate yourself, and actually put that knowledge to use because that’s how you gain experience and continue improving.

“Would you get on a plane knowing the pilot passed a multiple choice exam but had never actually sat inside a cockpit and flown a plane?”

No, you wouldn’t. 😂

This was a great analogy made by 10+ year cybersecurity engineer @williamtjsims of @cythority on the second episode of @breach1teach1.

And the same thing applies to cybersecurity.

Having certifications and learning new concepts is important, and they definitely help you.

But in reality, companies want to know that you can actually do the job.

As cybersecurity professionals, we have a lot of responsibility when it comes to protecting a company’s critical systems, data, and infrastructure.

Companies need people they can count on and don’t have to hold their hand every step of the way once they get into the role.

This is where hands on experience comes in.

Whether that’s internships, projects, joining a program like @cythority, or finding other ways to apply what you’ve learned, gaining hands on experience is vital when trying to build a career in cybersecurity.

Always remember, companies want to see that you’ve worked a role where you had a title and a set of responsibilities.

Also, don’t make any excuses.

It’s 2026, and there are too many resources out there for you to gain hands on experience.

Make a plan, stick to it, stay disciplined, and keep grinding.

A Detection Engineer from @splunk. Inside our VSOC. Querying our real enterprise logs.

Not a lab. Not a simulation. Not a sandbox with fake data. This is the @cythority VSOC Incubator.

He’s walking our VSOC members line by line through raw logs — how to read them, how to find the signal in the noise, and how to build the actual use case detections that SOCs run in production.

This is the work cybersecurity engineers get paid to do. And our members are learning it hands-on, from the people who build the tool, using real data.

That’s the difference. When they sit in an interview and get asked “walk me through a detection you built,” they don’t have to make something up. They’ve done it.

You need a job to get experience but need experience to get a job. That’s why this program exists.

If you’re in IT — helpdesk, sysadmin, desktop support — and you’re tired of being told you need “more experience” to break into cyber, this is your chance.

DM me the word “VSOC” and I’ll share my free training that will show you how we do it step by step.
