We’re very excited to announce William Tyler’s first ever performance in Japan on November 4th, at Moon Romantic Tokyo (@moonromantic_jp). He will be joined by Tokyo-based guitarist Takuro Okada (@okd_tkr) for a one-night only exploration of new sonic territories for the guitar.

A year ago today, we released the debut collaborative album by Kieran Hebden and William Tyler. The two have stayed individually super busy in the year since, but this one holds a special place in our boat (if we had one).

Psst...next week William Tyler is playing at the Barrel House in Totnes.

The cultish Nashville guitarist is over from America for the excellent End of the Road festival. I am pleased the warm up is in Totnes.

Previously of Lambchop and Silver Jews, William made a fascinating album last year with Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet (aside: who else saw his secret set at WeOutHere?!).

I’m also chuffed that cool guy S.A. Hampshire is opening the show. Formerly of Hearing Aid Beige, I think fans of Chris Cohen, Mild High Club, and Brian Wilson will enjoy hearing him. taken in The Barrel House Ballroom by @williamtylertn

July 25 @NewportFolkFest:

Innovative instrumental guitarists @Guitar.Yaz Yasmin Williams & @WilliamTylerTN (a former member of Silver Jews and Lambchop, I saw him play spectacular solo instrumental shows in NYC in 2019) have played occasional duo shows since 2020, but this was only their second full band appearance (the first was earlier this year at Tennessee’s more adventurous Big Ears festival, with Bartees Strange on bass), with @MegBrittCole (Jenny Lewis, Brandi Carlile, Sheryl Crow) on drums & @RheesW Rhees Williams joining on bass (that's triple William/s on one stage!).

Williams played less of her trademark style with guitar flat on her lap while finger-tapping the strings, instead holding the guitar conventionally and picking near the sound hole while Tyler played spindly patterns throughout an eight-song setlist that began with two beautifully rustic unreleased pieces, “Winter Solstice” & “Summer Solstice”, following with a couple of Tyler tunes, the country morning melodicism of the wryly-titled “Virginia is for Loners” from 2019 LP Goes West and then reverting to an acoustic duo interlude with alternate tunings for the relaxed new acoustic/American Primitive picking of “Kingdom of Jones” and the lap-tapping fingerstyle of Williams’s “Dragonfly” (included here in an extended clip) , before returning to a full-band format, eventually closing with “Guitka” (the promisingly titled new song “Shoegaze Song” was on the printed setlist, but unplayed).

The pair hasn’t released any co-billed studio recordings aside from Tyler’s guest spot on “Sisters” on Williams’s 2024 Nonesuch LP Acadia, but I agree with @Tinnitus_Photo when he pledged that if the unreleased songs are slated for an upcoming record, he’d snap it up in a heartbeat.
