🇸🇬Singapore World Aquatics Championships🇸🇬

What an unbelievable trip from start to finish.

Working through @talentedathleteuk for Aquatics GB: @gbrwomenswaterpolo and @gbsynchro

Being part of a world-class environment taught me so much – not only about the demands and intensity of water polo at that level, but also about my own development as a physio. From managing injuries and staying proactive under pressure, to juggling the needs of both water polo and artistic swimming across consecutive weeks, it was a hugely valuable learning curve. I also gained a lot in terms of communication and teamwork – and honestly, I just had a great time being part of such a welcoming and hardworking group.

There were plenty of laughs and memorable moments along the way, and I’m genuinely grateful to have had the opportunity to support such an inspiring team. Huge thanks again to the coaching staff and players for making me feel part of it all. by @willjamesphysio

We’re starting a new series for you to learn about all things Physiotherapy! 🤩

TASS HQ will be working alongside one of our brilliant practitioners @willjamesphysio and one of our fab @tassathletereps Megan Brierley 👏🙌

We’ll be releasing a new post once every couple of weeks based on information that we feel would be great for you to know ‼️

Time to kick start with learning about Periodic Health Evaluation 🙌

Let us know any other topics you’d like us to cover in the comments and on our story 👀 by @willjamesphysio

That’s a wrap on the Sports Massage Clinic for this year! 💪👐

What started as a side project turned into something much bigger—with the help of 5 incredible undergrad physio students, we delivered 107 sports massage & recovery sessions for our sport scholars and @talentedathleteuk athletes! 🙌

We were barely scratching the surface of our capacity (16 x 30min slots every Friday!) but still made a huge impact.

A massive thank you to Hugh, Alex, Erin, Orla, Eireann & Adam—you’ve been brilliant. For those heading into exams: good luck, and I hope this clinic gave you skills you’ll carry forward in your physio careers. 🎓🧠

Here’s to growing even more next year! 🚀

ACL Rehab - 2nd session - 2 weeks post op

This week we focussed heavily on regaining that end of range knee extension with exercises and walking.

Utilising the compex machine⚡️ daily, icing ❄️ frequently and doing our home exercise 🏋🏾‍♀️programme up to 4 x per day.

1. Compex-assisted SLR
2. Band walking with the crutches (focusing on heel-to-toe gait and ensuring terminal knee extension)
3. Double-leg Triple extension pattern iso push
4. Wall assisted hinge with aqua bag perturbations
5. Wall assisted hinge with overhead ball steering wheels
6. Mid-foot bridge marching
7. Crunch iso with torso rotation and overhead plate press

🚨 Cross-Training After Ankle Surgery 🚨

In a boot but still want to stay strong? 💪 Here are some home-based exercises you can safely do while recovering! Whether it’s your injured or non-injured side, keeping active is key 🔑

💡 Examples:
1. Banded Leg extensions / Staggered stance sit to stand
2. Feet elevated bridging & Single leg bridge iso holds
3. Calf raise isometric / Calf raises (seated & standing)
4. Banded abduction
5. Side plank with banded clam
6. Banded hip flexion
7. Banded deadbug
8. Side-lying groin leg raises

Why cross-train when injured?
✅ Maintains muscle strength
✅ Keeps your cardiovascular system ticking
✅ Boosts circulation & recovery
✅ Supports mental well-being

Benefits of isometrics in a boot:
🧷 Safe way to load without excessive joint movement
🧷 Maintains tendon & muscle capacity
🧷 Reduces muscle atrophy
🧷 Promotes blood flow for healing

Injury doesn’t mean inactivity — adapt, don’t stop! 🔥💪

I’m now officially a Levitex Foams ambassador! 🧡🛏️

This isn’t just another pillow…
It’s THE pillow that finally solved my nervy neck and shoulder pain ⚡️— and I’m not gatekeeping this one!

Levitex is the brainchild of founder James Leinhardt, who’s spent 10+ years helping critically injured, chronically ill, and in-firm patients — and has worked tirelessly to create the optimum lying surface for everyone.

This pillow focuses on:
✅ Posture — supporting your spine’s natural curves
✅ Proprioception — helping your body understand its position in space
✅ Pressure — reducing strain on the body while you sleep

I’ve seen first-hand how sleep position can impact pain. For example:
😴 Sleeping on your front? It can seriously ramp up neck issues, putting strain on those little joints.
🛌 Switching to proper side-lying support? Sometimes that alone is enough to ease the pain.

If you want to chat about your sleep posture and how it could help you feel better — drop me a message! Let’s sort it.

ACL REHAB - First Session Post Op 🦵💪

6 days post-surgery and Akyra is already off to a flying start 🚀 — the graft site is looking great and she’s been absolutely dialled in with her home exercises (4️⃣ x daily) and icing like a pro ❄️🧊.

First session focus:
• 🧊 Assess swelling
• 📏 Measure quad girth (10cm + 15cm above patella)
• 🔁 Check knee flexion/extension (active + passive)
• 💡 Test co-contraction around the knee
• ⚡️ Wake up the VMO and get it firing
• 🏋️‍♂️ Build strong loading habits early

With a patella tendon graft, range usually comes quickly — but we’re mindful not to irritate the front of the knee and always aim for a ‘quiet’ knee 🤫🦵 during these early phases.

Next step: dialling in normal movement patterns and locking down terminal knee extension control 🎯✅.

Weekend on Duty at BUCS Indoor Nationals🏃‍♂️💨

Here’s a quick look at what went down at the BUCS Indoor Nationals in Sheffield last weekend! 📍

monday AM work with @willjamesphysio

as we know i’m not a gym lover and have never been great at sticking to my strength work, but now i’m dealing with a bone stress injury, it’s more important than ever

by doing plyometrics (hops, jumps and bounds) on my non-injured leg, i’m preserving neuromuscular adaptations, strength, and coordination, while also promoting cross-education effects which will minimise overall performance loss when i’m back running

$. ⬜️ Femoral Neck Stress Fracture ⬜️ Continuing to dive, jump and progress sport specific drills On week 5 and 6 we progressed plyometrics and dives from soft surfaces to the Astro turf. We introduced linear jogging drills, forwards and sideways. Building up volume rather than intensity. #athletes #rehab #physio #physiotherapy #recovery #football #parafootball#goalkeeper #sportsphysio #goalkeeperrehab #tass #tassathlete #talentedathleteuk #stressfracture #stressfracturerehab by @willjamesphysio$
