Celebrating Achievement and Activism in Philadelphia

We were honored to welcome Brother Colin Kaepernick
@kaepernick7 to Philadelphia as part of his Lumi AI reading project, in collaboration with the School District of Philadelphia and the Mayor’s Office of Education. This initiative is a testament to his unwavering commitment to education and empowerment.

On behalf of the Kappa Alpha Psi Abington Ambler PA Alumni Chapter, Brother Will Mega, serving in the Mayor’s Office of Education, presented Brother Kaepernick with a custom Kappa Kane. This exquisite piece, crafted by Brother Mike Price was a heartfelt gesture of appreciation for Kaepernick’s activism and alignment with the principles of Achievement that Kappa Alpha Psi holds dear.

Brother Kaepernick was genuinely surprised and appreciative when he discovered his line name engraved on the Kane, expressing his delight with, “You even included my line name!” It was a memorable occasion that highlighted the power of brotherhood and dedication to making a difference.

Together, we continue to uplift our communities and inspire future generations through education and activism.

I started my involvement in politics as an eight-year-old, volunteering on the state representative campaign of the person who is now State Senator Hughes. Who knew that the friendships I made as a kid and the knowledge and experience I gained by staying civically engaged would, decades later, guide me into a career in public service as a government professional. @senvincenthughes @thesherylleeralph by @willmegatv

I’m grateful for the brief, unforgettable moments I had with the late Rev. Jesse Jackson — the first major political figure I met as a college freshman, and the last time I saw him in person was on stage at Aretha Franklin’s funeral. In this photo taken at the 2008 Congressional Black Caucus conference, @marclamonthill Marc Hill and I shared a quick conversation with a man whose rallying cry “Keep Hope Alive” became a national mantra. He inspired generations of Black voters and leaders, running for president and following in the long tradition of Black political courage that includes figures like Frederick Douglass, a path that ultimately helped open the way for Barack Obama. Flawed but indelible, his mark on American Black politics will endure. by @willmegatv
