•Female Marines•

Being a female Marine is NOT for the weak. Not ANYONE can say they have earned that title. The title doesn’t last a contract but a lifetime! Being a female Marine holds weight. Not only are you apart of the HARDEST branch BUT you overcome so much.

I remember I was walking the halls of Marion P. Thomas high school (Newark) in 2024 and a female student stopped me. She was so happy to see me in uniform but also surprised. She asked “don’t you feel that you don’t have a voice being a female in the military?”I told her “not only do I feel heard but I feel empowered.” I feel empowered because of the physical requirements I pass yearly, the duty assignments I have been on, the Marines I have mentored and served with, the leadership qualities I will keep with me forever, and more. If anything the Marine Corps helped me find my voice! I was placed into rooms I NEVER thought I was supposed to be in AND became something out of nothing. Even with less we make MORE.

We are THE few. THE Proud. THE (female) Marines 🎀🤍

All thanks to God 🥹!!!!

•PVT Bacchus, Nicolas •

PVT Bacchus was in the Delayed Entry Program (DEP) for less than 2 months. He heard about the process through his homeboy and wanted to challenge himself.

PVT Bacchus tried out the college life but wanted to put it on hold so he would be able to start his career earlier than his peers. He was able to start the process and do the buddy program with his friend, PVT Changlee.

PVT Bacchus was determined to receive that time; no matter the amount of time he invested. He was dropped twice in bootcamp and experienced all three battalions at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD). Days got longer and the days started to feel like it was dragging. Finally was able to pass all obstacles.

If I had to choose anyone to work beside me, it would be him. Not only did he show dedication to earning that title but he didn’t call quits after he failed. He kept pushing through even when a piece of him wanted to go back home to comfort.

•PVT Hamilton, Al-Tariq •

PVT Hamilton was in the Delayed Entry Program (DEP) for over 6 months. It took him some time because his waiver got kicked back BUT he was EAGER to earn that title Marine.

I first met PVT Hamilton at his school during a leadership seminar. He informed me he was going to the Air Force and waiting on everything to get finalized. One day I hit him up and told him to come to the office to learn more about the Marine Corps and the opportunities while serving. He learned more about the Marines and changed branches. Not only did he want to be apart of the brotherhood and sisterhood BUT he loved the family dynamic at TEAM ESSEX.

PVT Hamilton attended his first PT Session and thought it was one of the most challenging workouts he had from that moment. That didn’t stop him because after he would faithfully show up. From Poolee to GUIDE!!!

🎀: Retire within 20 years

•PVT Williams, Terrence •

PVT Williams did not spend that much time in the Delayed Entry Program (DEP). In the beginning he couldn’t make up his mind between Navy and Marines. The Navy was aggressively trying to get him to join their branch. Then he started to speak with Gunnery Sergeant Brown and got inspired to choose the Marines.

PVT Williams was working at Home Depot at the time but wanted more for himself. Not only would he be the first to serve in his family but it would be the start of a legacy. He was interested in being apart of the few and standing out from the other branches.

He didn’t want to join the Marines… he wanted to become ONE.

🎀: Receive American citizenship for free 💸
🎀: Travel the world at a young age (work and personal)
🎀: Have leadership qualities that will last him a lifetime by @willstherecruiter

•PVT Changlee, Gerald•

PVT Changlee waited to become apart of the Delayed Entry Program (DEP) for over 9 months. He passed his test with flying colors BUT his medical waiver held him back. Not only did it get disapproved the first round, he had to take care of some stuff prior to fully committing.

PVT Changlee’s family supported his decision to join the military BUT they really wanted him to join the Navy. He knew that his heart belonged in the Marines and wanted more of a challenge (physically). Since he first started the process when he was 17 years old BOTH parents had to consent. That didn’t stop him! ESP since his father is currently residing in Guyana 🇬🇾.

PVT Changlee was one of my go to tutors! Anytime I needed him to help out an applicant he asked NO questions. His dedication to earning the title of Marine and helping others earn that title too was unreal. I cannot wait to see the things he will do in the Corps bcs I know junior Marines would LOVE to have a leader like him.

•PVT Marte, Cristopher•

PVT Marte was in the DEP for over 4 months. Towards the end of senior year is when he wanted to take the next step into earning that title of becoming a Poolee. It didn’t come easy and it took him a few months but it was worth the wait.

He had any branch to choose from but he chose to earn the title of becoming a Marine. Not only is he the first in his family but he is continuing the cop legacy 👮( in the Corps).

PVT Marte was definitely one of my pains but I was happy to have him apart of Pink Nation 🤪. Anytime I needed something, he was there. He didn’t show up much (to PT) but when he did he put out. I had NO doubt that he would earn that title (mainly bcs he’s my Dominican cousin 🇩🇴). Words cannot express how proud I am of him.

Also…. for the longest I thought he had an “h” in his first name 🌝!

Fun Facts:
🎀: Graduated: Central High School
🎀: Get to continue his passion with the aviation field on his personal time
🎀: Go to school for free using Tuition Assistance
🎀: Stay in the best shape
🎀: Get to retire in the next 20 years by @willstherecruiter

•PVT Ogunyankinnu, Eniola•

PVT Ogunyankinnu originally planned on joining the Marines around late 2022. She worked with multiple Marines and different offices because she had to move and she wasn’t passing the test. No matter how many times she failed, she KEPT PUSHING THROUGH. One of things I admire about her the most is following through with her overall goal. She could have changed her mind and chose another branch, another path, etc. She knew what she wanted and ran after it.

I want everyone to learn a valuable lesson from her. No matter what life throws at you, you have to keep dodging and push through. You might get a few handouts but nothing beats something you EARN.

EARNED NEVER GIVEN -Marines 🔥

Fun Facts:
🎀: Have the Marines assist with nursing
🎀: Able to travel within the state and different countries
🎀: Utilize the Tuition Assistance Program, GI Bill, etc.
🎀: First in her family to earn the title of Marine by @willstherecruiter

•PFC Toe, Siemo•

PVT Toe was in the Delayed Entry Program (DEP) for over 2 months. He started college but had a few friends who joined the Marines. From there he came in to learn more about what we had to offer and decided to do our part time program.

Poolee Toe was physically fit and that helped him through recruit training. When he showed up to our workout sessions he would guide the other poolees and give them tips on how to improve with their pull ups. I always gave him crap bcs I knew he can push himself more and be a great leader. I cannot wait to see what he does in the Reserves and see him transfer to active duty later.

Fun Facts:
🎀: Graduated: Marion P. Thomas High School
🎀: Joined the Reserves to continue college
🎀: Get to utilize the following reservist programs: Selected Marine Corps Reserve, Individual Mobilization Augmentee, and Individual Ready Reserve.

🎀Girls State 2026🎀

I had an amazing time during this event because I was able to learn about the Girls State Program, speak to future female leaders, mentor them, and more. The ladies apart of this course were HAND selected to attend and ONLY 200 spots were available. On this course they learned about: leadership skills, teamwork, experience with local, county, and government, understanding how political parties work, and more.

Best part was being able to meet the young ladies and learn about some career opportunities they want to pursue in the future. I also enjoyed all of the posters I saw 🤭.

April was a great month 😼.

I thank God for all of the things he’s blessed me with 🥹. One thing about my father… HE does NOT play about his kids!!! Don’t be afraid of the unknown; have faith!

You have to close that door in order to open the next 🫶🏿.
