Happy Birthday to the coolest Wil Schroter I know!

Today my son Wil turns 10.

Ten years ago Sara Schroter gave me the greatest birthday present you could possibly give - an amazing son.

I love sharing a birthday with him. Every year we get excited about the same day.

Today we get to unwrap a new 3D printer, eat donuts for breakfast, watch the new Spiderman movie, race go karts at our new house, go to an amazing dinner, and if there is time left over, do something he wants to do ;)

Wil has turned out to be the sweetest, kindest, most empathetic teddy bear in the world. I've never seen someone who is just laughing nonstop all day long. All he wants to do is play, all the time.

He is everything I have ever hoped for in a son and I'm so thankful I get to celebrate one more year with this dude.

Happy birthday lil man!

Now let's go play... by @wilschroter

Summer just gave her commencement speech at her Middle to High School graduation ceremony!

Since Sara Schroter was on the Board of Trustees at Wellington she had the luxury of handing our beautiful daughter her diploma. Such a cool moment.

Summer also won an award for Academic Excellence which was just icing in the cake.

Incredibly proud of my girl.

Also, we officially have a high schooler!!! by @wilschroter

My son decided to style his hair before a school event today.

I told him this is how it starts. First, the hair gel, next thing you know, you're a teen hearthrob. by @wilschroter

Q1 sucked for me.

I lost my brother. I went through 2 surgeries to stop crippling pain. I worked every waking moment 7 days a week. I haven't taken a day off (not even holidays) in 2 years.

So why am I smiling?

Because I'm grateful.

Despite all of the adversity I'm grateful for what I do have.

I'm grateful for my amazing wife Sara Schroter. Marriages are hard, but she makes it easy.

I'm grateful for my two amazing kids who are so sweet and kind that I sometimes wonder how they are my kids.

I'm grateful for all of the love and support I got from so many of you when my brother passed. Many of you took real time out to show me some love and I want you to know it was a big deal to me.

I'm grateful I get to wake up every day and do what I love, on my own terms, with people I love helping and a team I enjoy working with.

I'm grateful that 9% of the time I'm super healthy. I'm looking forward to taking that up to 10% someday (we can all dream..)

I'm grateful that I get to build my dream home, something that I've worked 30 years to achieve, and it's finally happening (it only took 5 years)

But mostly, I'm just grateful to be grateful.

That's why I'm smiling.

I want to thank everyone in my life that made it possible.

You're all awesome and I love you. by @wilschroter

My little girl is almost 14... How did this happen?!

I keep doing double takes every time she walks by.

Am I the only one who can't process this? by @wilschroter

National Daughter Day?! You mean I get to spend even *more* time gushing about how much I love this girl?

OK!

Summer is the perfect daughter. She is as kind as she is smart and beautiful.

She is the better version of her parents (and we love it)

I've never seen so much empathy and compassion come so effortlessly from anyone, much less a 13 year old.

Anyone who has ever heard me talk about her knows I'm beaming with pride as soon as I open my mouth. If you want a topic I won't shut up about, ask me what I think of my daughter!

I love you so much Sum! You are a dream to have and your Daddy will always love you dearly. by @wilschroter

My little man got a record player and we've been building up his record collection including today's haul.

There's something amazing about reliving your own childhood through the eyes and ears of your kids.

The fact that these are his baselines as a kid who is taking drum lessons and loves music is amazing!!! by @wilschroter

I broke all 3 of my vehicles and caused over $40,000 in repairs in just 2 weeks.

I think if you're going to commit to doing something, do it all the way.

Also none of this happened with me going more than 10 mph in all 3.

Rivian = Backed into tree in my back yard.

BMW = Drove over pothole in parking lot.

Bobcat = Blew hydraulic lines and lost fuel pickup hose inside gas tank.

... Anyone have a vehicle I can borrow? Sara Schroter won't even let me near hers for some reason!! by @wilschroter

Some people like to sit in their living room with a cup of coffee and watch the sun come up in the morning.

I like to stand in my living room with a miter saw.

The new house is starting to take shape...

We're under roof, framed, with windows and doors. The mechanicals are pretty far along and soon we'll be hanging some drywall.

That's when all of the Kitchens, Bars, Closets, Vanities and so much more that I've been building for the last 2+ years will finally find their actual home.

Right now that gray is them putting a rubber coating around the entire house to make it air and water tight. This week they start installing stucco and then after that metal to cover the exterior.

We're going on 4 years of development for this project. The goal is to move in by Christmas.

A big part of what's left is squarely on my shoulders - and I couldn't be more ready. Let's do this! by @wilschroter

It's time for Closets!

We are still in the middle of getting all the mechanicals in, and probably 6 weeks from when Drywall will even start, but I had a half dozen areas drywalled way early so I could get a head start on installing all of my cabinetry.

This weekend's project was Wil's walk-in closet. It's probably one of the first things I started building 2 years ago when I was stockpiling all of this cabinetry for this house.

At this point every single closet, cabinet, or vanity is already built and sitting in storage.

But since all of this fall squarely on me to install, it's going to take me months and months, so I needed to come up with a plan to begin months ahead.

Right now I'm installing just the cabinet carcasses without any face frames or detail. The idea is that I can easily cover them up for when the painters come in, and then put the final touches on them later. by @wilschroter
