The results of the @winealign National Wine Awards of Canada 2026 are now out.

This June in Niagara-on-the-Lake, 21 Canadian and international judges and 2 Co-chairs judged blind 1800+ entries of Canadian wines (grape-based, fruit, mead, cider and no/low) from across Canada.

There were 325 different flights with 6, 725+ bottles and cans opened by 33 volunteers and 4 administrative staff. Over the course of 5 days, 9,000 glasses were poured, washed and polished (with very few broken).

This is by far the largest, most important and representative Canadian wine competition each year, in Canada and internationally. The judging results shine a spotlight on some of Canada's best wines and wineries, and perhaps even more importantly, the category overviews are a snapshot of Canadian wine today - the trends, tendencies and strengths of the industry.

Congratulations to Mission Hill Family Estate who has returned to the top of the heap once again at the 2025 WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada! This is the 6th time they have won the Winery of the Year title. The first time they took home the top prize was at the inaugural awards in 25 years ago in 2001.

Attention all Canadian wineries and cideries! Registration for the 2024 National Wine Awards of Canada is now open.

The WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada (NWAC) is 24 years old in 2024, having conducted 23 previous competitions (missing only 2020 due to the global pandemic). Today, it is the country’s largest and most respected competition, involving 100 percent Canadian-grown and produced wines. It was founded by co-chairs Anthony Gismondi and David Lawrason in 2001 and is held annually in various locations across Canadian wine country. The judging involves a select group of Canadian wine writers, educators, sommeliers, and two international judges who spend a week assessing some 2000 wines and ciders.

The 2024 judging takes place June 21 to 25 near Niagara Falls, Ontario, in the heart of the Niagara wine country.

Our wine tasting adventure is back for its 10th (yes, 10th!) season!

Join us for “Think You Know Wine?” on Saturday, January 20th at 6pm on Zoom as David, John, Michael, and Sara attempt to guess the grape variety, vintage, region, and price of the wines in their vials of mystery (misery?).
