After nearly a decade working in Napa Valley, I’ve officially made my way over the mountain to Sonoma.

I’m now lucky enough to work with two wineries that care just as much about how wine is grown as how it tastes.

I’ve always believed and marketed the idea that great wine starts in the vineyard, so getting to work with brands that embrace Biodynamic and organic farming with the future in mind feels pretty awesome.

Excited to keep drinking, exploring, oh and marketing Sonoma wine country.

My girl @kmags10 LOVES @silveroakcellars - so on her special day we celebrate with a special wine. Beautiful dark fruit is kissed with American oak and fine-grained tannins. It has an incredibly long finish that leaves you wanting another sip. Happy Birthday, Kimi! 🎉🍷🍷 by @winecommguy

Age worthy? Absolutely! This 2009 William Cole Cabernet Sauvignon is still super dense and chewy. It is still PACKED with blackberry, black cherry cola, cassis, fleshy plum, sweet tobacco, and dark chocolate.

The tannins are sturdy but silky, which lend way to a long, elegant finish.

As you enjoy that delicious wine, thank the hard working vineyard crews that are up overnight harvesting the grapes.

Why overnight?

The cool weather helps the grapes stabilize their sugar levels (sugar = alcohol) and maintain their natural acidity (acidity = freshness, balance, etc.).

While you're at it, thank the marketing folks who capture these awesome behind-the-scenes moments. 🤣

There's something magical about the start of harvest season, and today we're kicking it off with these beautiful Sauvignon Blanc grapes! Nothing beats the excitement of seeing the fruit come into the winery to be crafted into amazing wine.

The Cinnabari from @dracaenawines is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Merlot. Being from Paso Robles, you might think it would be super ripe or extracted. Let me tell you friends, this wine is rich, but extremely lively.

It is packed with black cherry, black raspberry, crunchy red plum, creme de cassis, and hints of baking spice and cocoa. The acidity is what blew me away. It is so well balanced against fine grained tannins and just begs you for another sip. I have some Italian food on the way, and cannot wait to pair it with my pasta.

This wine is sold out from the producer, but if you can get your hands on the next vintage, you won't be disappointed.

In 2018 I had the very fortunate opportunity to go work for this man. Miljenko "Mike" Grgich lived 100 years to the fullest. His life wasn't always easy, but he worked hard, persevered and created a legacy that will never dim.

Napa Valley and the wine industry as a whole have a lot to thank for Mike's winemaking and business acumen. His father's lesson to him of, "every day do your best, learn something new and make a friend" is a value he passed on not only to every employee that worked for him, but to guests that were fortunate to meet him.

One day while working on the computer in the tasting room office he came in told me to go be with the people. He understood the importance of building relationships. Work on the computer could wait...being with our guests, whether I was their host or not was more important.

If you know anything about Mike, you know that, 'You Are My Sunshine' and 'Que Sera Sera' were two of his favorite songs. I'm sure there was a crowd of people welcoming him into Heaven singing both.

RIP, Mr. Grgich.

I LOVE that one of my favorite holidays is also shared with Merlot Month.

The Stephanie Merlot from Hestan Vineyards is named after the only daughter of vintners, Stanley and Helen Cheng.

At a surprising 13.8% abv, this Napa Valley Merlot is elegant and lithe while still showing plenty of red plum, cassis, red currant, sweet tobacco, baking spice, and dry brush.

2016 was a great vintage for Napa Valley, and this Merlot is a great example of it.
