Countdown to Wine Flair SF is on, and we are thrilled that Tara Gomez and Mireia Taribo from Camins 2 Dreams will be joining us! šŸ¾

Camins 2 Dreams is a family-owned winery founded in 2017 by the wife winemaking duo, Tara Gomez, a member of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, and Mireia Taribó, hailing from Catalunya.Ā  Together, they craft wines that celebrate their diverse heritage while embracing a philosophy of minimal intervention—fermented with natural yeast and low levels of SO2. Committed to showcasing the distinct character of each vineyard, they exclusively partner with organic, biodynamic, and regenerative vineyards in San Benito and Santa Barbara County, with a focus in Sta. Rita Hills AVA, all of which uphold a deep respect for the land and its workers.Ā

In addition to their delicious wines made from Gruner Veltliner, Carignan, and a host of other grapes, Camins 2 Dreams made a Guardian Vital Syrah in 2023. Tara Gomez is on The Vinguard’s advisory board, and both she and Mireia have joined us at Wine Flair in Austin,Ā  Los Angeles, and San Francisco. We’re so happy to have them back in the Bay!

Perhaps like me, these days, you struggle to find hopeful things.

Attending @winefare hosted by @catharineclarkgallery broke that spell — reminding me that answers exist, that they are being implemented, and that they must start somewhere, with someone.

Too much good wine for mehdi_somm on that day, you might think...

@thevinguard organized a panel to discuss regenerative viticulture, which evolved from organic and sustainable farming.

Regenerative viticulture considers vineyards agroecosystems — integrating vines, cover plants, animals, insects and more, with the goal of improving resources such as soil and water. Reviving microbiology, organisms, nutrients and soil structure is central to this practice.Ā A healthy ecosystem can largely sustain itself naturally. However, regenerative viticulture also looks to continually improve social measures, not just environmental ones.

@thevinguard board member Tiffani Patton of @laughing_gems_wine led a fantastic panel including viticulturist Prudy Foxx, Jill Matthiasson of @matthiasson_wine, and Matt Walsh of @paicinesranch.

A few things I noted:

-At @paicinesranch, regenerated soil has taken a vineyard from 7 plant species to over 100.

-Regenerative practice is not a naive endeavor. It is a sound approach — with compromises, trials, errors and hard work — that must be economically viable.

-Matthiasson has unquestionably witnessed vines producing higher quality grapes.

-Community and knowledge exchange are necessary engines of the movement — giving others the confidence to make the transition.

-@paicinesranch trains their vines high, with space below for sheep to roam — as natural lawnmowers and fertilizers.

-Matthiasson's employees receive generous health plans that many corporations fail to match. Prudy Foxx has observed better life conditions for workers through minimum wage increases — fewer hardships, access to better cars and clothes, and younger generations highly motivated to gain expertise.

What is hopeful? Rodale Institute defined the framework for regenerative agriculture in the 1980s. Today, the practice is proven, expanding, and represents an incredible improvement over conventional agriculture. by @winefaresf
