This year, one of our students has started a holiday toy drive focused on making play accessible to ALL! Students will be adding adaptive switches to toys to make them accessible for children with disabilities. For some children, making their toys dance, move, or sing can be extra difficult when it requires pressing tiny buttons, squeezing tightly, or using a lot of force. With an adaptive switch, we can make those same toys much easier to activate. Let's help every child play this holiday season!

Our current need is more SWITCHES! Please see our Amazon wishlist link below if you are interested in partnering with us.

We are so grateful for your support in helping holiday wishes come true!

Yesterday, Dr. Jessie Martin, Assistant Dean of the Music Department, served as a guest lecturer in Dr. Sinclair's Interventions to Support Occupations course, introducing students to the Alexander Technique.

The Alexander Technique is a mind-body educational approach that helps individuals recognize and modify inefficient postural and movement habits, promoting greater ease, efficiency, and body awareness. This valuable knowledge will enhance our students' ability to support the health, well-being, and functional performance of their future clients while also encouraging their own lifelong wellness and injury prevention.

Thank you, Dr. Martin! by @wingate_otd

Yesterday, our students spent a meaningful morning volunteering at Union Diversified Industries (UDI), honoring Lucy’s memory through a kindness-themed frisbee craft and game. Lucy embodied kindness in countless ways, and her love of frisbee golf made this activity a fitting tribute to the joy, compassion, and connection she shared with everyone at UDI 💛🌻💛 by @wingate_otd

Last week in Dr. Sinclair’s Interventions to Support Occupations course, students had the opportunity to participate in an engaging interprofessional guest lecture presented by Dr. DeLangie from Exercise Science. The lecture highlighted the importance of strength training in rehabilitation, as well as its role in promoting health, preventing injury, and supporting overall wellness across the lifespan. We greatly appreciated Dr. DeLangie’s expertise and insights, which provided valuable connections between exercise science and occupational therapy practice. by @wingate_otd

Over the past two weeks in Dr. Sinclair’s Interventions to Support Occupation class, we had the privilege of welcoming two outstanding guest lecturers. Dr. Carlie Powell from Cohort 2 shared her expertise on shoulder anatomy and interventions, while Dr. Dawson Wright from Cohort 3 provided an insightful lecture on common hand and elbow injuries, along with current treatment approaches.

We greatly appreciated their time, knowledge, and willingness to share their clinical expertise with our students. Their engaging presentations provided valuable learning experiences and enriched our understanding of these important areas of practice. by @wingate_otd

Wingate OTD students visited the North Carolina Assistive Technology Program in Charlotte yesterday as part of Dr. Hauser's OTD 733 Technology course. Students had the opportunity to learn about the program, explore various pieces of assistive technology, and spend some time with the SLP to learn about Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices. What a fabulous resource! by @wingate_otd

Last week in Dr. Sinclair's Interventions to Support Occupations class, for the third consecutive year, we had the privilege of welcoming Dr. Polk, DPT, as a guest lecturer for our OTD students on the topic of dry needling. Our students were actively engaged throughout the session and benefited from valuable insights, engaging discussion, and hands-on learning opportunities. They also gained practical experience learning how to perform dry needling techniques on several muscle groups. by @wingate_otd
