We have sold BlackJack 🖤

It's the end of an era, but our adventures are far from over.

We've had the pleasure of owning BlackJack, a car that brought immense joy and excitement into our lives. Although it was a reliable companion, it wasn't without its flaws. The occasional issues were manageable, but the expenses began to mount.

Recently, we invested a substantial amount to ensure BlackJack was ready for our upcoming trip. However, when the output shaft failed us in the middle of nowhere, reality set in. We couldn't continue pouring money into the car.

It's a decision we've pondered before, but our affection for the car kept us from acting. Now, we can no longer ignore the signs 😔

Letting go of BlackJack is bittersweet, and Matt still has his doubts. Yet, we're grateful for the unforgettable experiences we shared with this car. From the Karoo to the Namaqua Eco-Trail, Namibia, Cederberg, Botswana, and beyond - BlackJack took us on the journey of a lifetime. He even encountered some incredible wildlife 🦁 🐘

Fortunately he’s gone off to another Landy enthusiast who we know will take good care of him.

So, what's next for us? Stay tuned 😉 by @wingnut_thedefender

The best campsites in this country aren’t on any map. They’re behind a farm gate with someone on a motorbike willing to show you 🤝 by @wingnut_thedefender

Some people detail their cars on a Sunday. We do this.

Two weeks ago this was a very expensive decision. Now it’s the best one we’ve made.

The most romantic thing a man can do on a camping trip is remember the Tabard.

We told ourselves it was just a roof rack. It was never just a roof rack.

Alu-Cab Icarus is on. Ten years of “we’ll upgrade next season” ended in one weekend. 🏔️

Anyone else’s build spiral faster than their budget?

A walk that turned into a recovery mission 😅

Spoiler: the tractor won. For now.

Needed a snatch strap, needed our winch — had neither. Round two tomorrow 🪏

Big shoutout to @ragnar_roams for pulling in clutch 🤝

A happy (belated) World Camping Day ⛺️

Where our love for camping and Defenders started all those years ago. In our original 1994 200Tdi affectionately known as “Smokey”, traversing through a muddy transkei with nothing more than a @howlingmoonsa rooftop tent, a @frontrunnerza roof rack and a number plate in the window.
