A wee BTS from my writing + research residency at @angelsandmuse earlier this year in Benin City, Nigeria.

This is Antonia. A bonafide lover girl who just loves weddings and making people happy. Her speciality is making bridal Okuku (the traditional beaded crown from Benin Kingdom).

I was sharing how tender this moment was earlier this week with a pal. Especially when she told me how she learned from someone she nostalgically described as 'you could she is my mother' and then proceeded to fondly tell me how she taught her.

POV: you went for travel research in Morocco and came back married, and with a new name.

Nuptials + Names aside 😭😂, it was soooooo cool to see and feel the entire process of making argan oil from seed to oil. It's one thing to research online but quite another to experience the whole shebang!

I also now have a new found appreciation for how long it takes to make! This was a major arm workout haha!!!

Totally living for the little special nuggets, stories, and nuances from the entire field trip. Ever grateful to my new friends @targant.taghazout for the best history tour!!! I'm deffo coming back Manele ✨💕

Last night, at a special reception for the @britishbeautycouncil, hosted by the Chancellor of the Exchequer at Downing Street.

Beauty is POWERFUL.
And, having spent much of this year travelling, researching and documenting beauty cultures, I’ve been reminded time and time again of its impact through history, culture, and community.

And that in itself is deserving of continued recognition ✌🏾 by @winnieawa
