No filters, no post-processing...these are some of the photos I captured with my little Fuji Instax Pal on the first of two nights of concerts by country artist Morgan Wallen at Michigan Stadium. The camera has no viewfinder and no screen--but it's also very inconspicuous, which is a plus. (About 1.5x the size and a similar shape as a Lindt chocolate truffle.)

I don't know how I feel about these massive country-music concerts. They're obviously a big draw, and I support all live music, but also...well, take a look at the photos and maybe you'll have some of the same ambivalent reactions I was having.

By the way, I didn't go to the show myself. The stadium just happened to be on my way home, and I'll admit, I was curious to catch a glimpse of the action....

It was at this moment that we said: "Maybe it's time to move *inside* the tent."

Whoever made this graffito was on to something. (Make sure you read *both* prepositions, haha.) Combined with its setting above I-94, I think it suggests something about our constant state of flux, and taking the good with the bad.

This was the shot of the night. So much joy on the streets of Ann Arbor tonight—but also, a dose of defiance. Our boys did it. They proved they were *the* team, and they made us proud once again. What a special thing to witness.

Ann Arbor is quiet now, but it’s about to get a lot louder.

So, it has not been a uniformly good week—but what it has been, is one of the most productive weeks of music-making I’ve had in years. That feels good. I’ve rehearsed a Beethoven mass for an upcoming concert at U of M, and played a concert with @michiganphil featuring some new and challenging works along with a chamber orchestra interpretation of Debussy’s La Mer. I played a funeral, and I played two wedding receptions back-to-back. The first of those, pictured here, was particularly rewarding: A half-stationary, half-strolling solo violin gig where the client requested all-classical repertoire. I wasn’t sure I could pull it off, but I prepared *really* thoroughly, purchasing some new equipment—including a loop pedal, finally!—and making use of what I already had: A mic and mic stand to amplify one violin and a pickup for the other one (routed through the looper), laptop for backing tracks—including some I recorded myself and a great Music Minus One CD of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons I found online—and a $50 cheapo audio interface that actually makes a perfectly passable two-channel preamp/mixer…! I have never schlepped so much gear to a gig in my life! 😂 But I feel like I’m expanding my horizons. I may expand them yet further…anyway, I’m thankful for work I find interesting and challenging. Something to build on.
