This week I hostessed @food.clubbbb for a barbecue dinner! I am so busy every weekend this summer so we had to do it on a weekday which gave me a pretty tight time crunch while working 9-5 in the office. With this challenge, I knew I had to come up with something that could be prepared in advance, so I landed on barbecue food! With the dinner on Wednesday, I did the majority of the shopping and made the bbq sauce on Monday. @brooklynfare came in clutch and I was able to have them track down a pork butt for me. I picked it up Tuesday after a rainy day on the NYC subways sent me on a wild goose chase of broken down trains to track down the crock pot I borrowed from a friend. I finally made it home to make the cole slaw and potato salad and prep the pork which took me about until 12:30 am. I woke up Wednesday morning to turn on the crock pot and came home from work to my apartment smelling amazing! I ran to the store one more time for an impromptu dessert of s’mores bars, a solution to another challenge of the fact that my oven only has a convection setting, so baked goods are pretty much out of the question. I made the mac and cheese and the dessert last. My personal favorite menu items were the pork and the dessert. @food.clubbbb were amazing guests and you should all follow along on their page! by @witchinthakitch
More grilling content but summer is in full swing and I’m not sorry about it!!!! Dinner for some of my extended family at my grandparents’ house ❤️ #girlswhogrill #summer @webergrills by @witchinthakitch
Another successful dinner party! I made a spicy vodka rigatoni, garlic bread and a classic Caesar salad with homemade dressing and croutons. We did @nestletollhouse cookies for dessert, I did not have the bandwidth to make cookie dough inside an already busy weekend but as @inagarten always says, store bought is fine! Shoutout to my amazing roommates for helping calm the chaos of cooking for 15 people in our little kitchen!!💞🌸🎀 #witchinthakitch by @witchinthakitch
Semolina English muffins by @haileecatalano so easy and so delicious! #englishmuffin #munglish #spoonerism #witchinthakitch by @witchinthakitch
Somehow I am still surprised every single time my food comes out right even though it comes out right 95% of the time. @haileecatalano with the perfect English muffin recipe tho. Stay humble baddies x #witchinthakitch by @witchinthakitch
Cacio e pepe gnocchi! I referenced a video by @brandonskier for the gnocchi and they were sooooo good! I was worried it would come out dense and hard but they were fluffy and chewy and totally delicious! #gnocchi #cacioepepe #italian #pasta #witchinthakitch by @witchinthakitch
Gift certificate was $125 and my bill was $125.23 👌🏼. Of course had to support my girl @wishbonekitchen 🩷🩷 #williamssonoma #haul #cookinghaul @williamssonoma by @witchinthakitch
My godmother came for a quick overnight pit stop so she, my mom and I had this hearty fall festive salad for dinner. I marinated the chicken in the juice and zest of an orange, garam masala, grated garlic, thyme, harissa, smoked paprika, olive oil, salt, black pepper, etc and put it on the grill. I wanted it to be warm flavors for the theme of the salad. I sliced all of my brussels sprouts thin and set aside any leaves that fell off while I was trimming the ends so that I could toast them up to be more depth of flavor and a crispy crunch. I also added fresh and caramelized onions, julienne carrots, toasted almonds and pepitas and roasted sweet potato. Granny Smith apples and goat cheese offer the sweet and creamy elements to the salad. I also had dried cranberries for another pop of color but I forgot them until I’d already started eating, pictured last. The dressing was a mustardy vinaigrette to add a sour bite to the very rich, dense salad. This was a lot of fun to come up with and it was really really good! The spices in the chicken marinade smelled so good on the grill it was wonderful! It’s a great salad to make as meal prep if you want since the dense ingredients won’t get soggy. Highly recommend making something like this! by @witchinthakitch
I made @sallysbakeblog pumpkin pancakes! I also added a maple cinnamon whipped cream and it was SO good, I just love fall baking 🍂🎃🍁 by @witchinthakitch
Weekend 2 in Charlottesville I turned 25 on Saturday. 25 is a big year and 5 friends came from 5 different states so I knew I had to make it special! I made chicken chili for Friday night as some girls were getting in late and I wanted it to be an easy, rolling mealtime. Saturday morning was the star of the show. I made another batch of ham biscuits, deviled eggs, pumpkin cinnamon rolls, and while I was doing all of that one of the girls helped me out by cooking up the sausage patties, another tackled carving the wine pumpkin and my mom and the other girls did an amazing job decorating the barn! Sometimes you have to cave and get some help because you don’t have 8 hands. To go with brunch we had orange or apple cider mimosas to keep it festive and headed off to a winery for the afternoon. I placed an order from @smokedkitchenandtap for dinner which my mom picked up. We came back to decorate my cake which I wanted to get a little more creative with as I bought some food coloring for the icing but there are only so many hours in the day. I saw someone online soften birthday candles in warm water to wind them into funky shapes so my friends took on that while I iced the cake. I also wanted to get flowers to decorate it but I couldn’t figure out where to find edible flowers in time. Maybe next year. The cake was a total hit, I used @wishbonekitchen Guinness chocolate cake recipe which includes soaking it in a chocolate toffee sauce. I then sent everybody home with pumpkin snickerdoodles from @sallysbakeblog by @witchinthakitch
The first weekend in Charlottesville I made applesauce, ham biscuits (my first time making biscuits!), steak, salad and potatoes dinner, roasted chicken and vegetables dinner, and butternut squash chili which I completely freehanded (it was such a hit that our guests requested the recipe so I typed it up for them. I guess I may call myself a recipe developer now). We ordered a box of sandwiches from @ivyprovisions for our tailgate, my mom made a sausage breakfast casserole and we had some pumpkin bread from @yoderscountrymarket by @witchinthakitch
Yesterday I had the opportunity to take a tour of the fields and greenhouse at @stonebarns . It was amazing to see everything that goes into growing delicious food! I got to taste some unique tomato varieties, uncured ginger, hibiscus flowers, arugula, the sweetest corn I’ve ever had (we ate it raw and it was incredible) and crunched some sorghum. We were sent home with the ginger and some paw paw fruits which are native to the area. It was really sweet and reminded me of a mango and I used the ginger in a stir fry last night. Pictured is gorgeous Swiss chard, beautiful flowers, the paw paw fruits and me rinsing the dirt off the ginger when I got home by @witchinthakitch
