Parents, an FBA can be a starting point in the conversation about paraprofessional support. 📝

A Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) helps the school team understand why a behavior occurs, what happens before and after it, and what supports your child may need.

An FBA does not automatically guarantee a paraprofessional. It provides information that can help guide the IEP team’s discussion about behavior supports, including whether paraprofessional support is appropriate.

The goal is to understand your child’s needs and identify support that helps them participate, learn, and build independence.

You can start the conversation by asking: “Would an FBA help us better understand my child’s needs and determine appropriate support?”

Your observations and questions belong in that conversation. 💛🌱

Early literacy begins long before a child reads their first book independently. 📚

It grows when we talk with children, sing familiar songs, point out letters on a walk, and pause to let them tell us what they notice in a picture. These everyday moments build language, curiosity, and the confidence to make meaning.

As educators and caregivers, we do not have to turn every moment into a lesson. We can make room for conversation, stories, and play and make sure every child has a way to participate.

Tonight, try this: read a book together and ask, “What do you think might happen next?” Then give your child time to answer in their own way. 💬 Need a book to read? Try “Coral Celebrates Differences” found on Amazon! 🎉📚

Today hits a little different. 💛📚

It’s Coral’s first day of school, and as an educator, advocate, and mom, I’m experiencing back-to-school season from a whole new perspective.

I’ve spent years thinking about what children need from schools: belonging, high expectations, educators who see their strengths, and environments where differences are valued. But when it’s your own baby walking through those doors, every one of those things feels even more important. Kindergarten, here we are!

So this week, we’re celebrating Coral, every child beginning a new chapter, the families trusting schools with the people they love most, and the educators who have prepared to receive them. ✏️✨

Here’s to a school year filled with bright minds, brave educators, stronger partnerships, and brighter futures.

And to my Coral: go learn, explore, ask ALL the questions, be kind, be bold, and keep being exactly who you are. Mommy is so proud of you. 💛
