So much gratitude to everyone who joined our Make Your Own Merienda workshop at Common Friends 🤍

Even with a rainy afternoon, thank you to our participants for still showing up and sharing space with us. We spent the day creating, telling stories, and enjoying simple, local flavors — with mangoes 🥭 from Zambales and muscovado sugar 🍮 from Antique.

A special thank you to Common Friends for inviting us and for holding such a warm, welcoming space for the community!

Together with artisanal muscovado from Antique, we’ll discover how local ingredients can tell the stories of the places they come from.

Unlike provinces known for vast sugarcane plantations, muscovado production in Antique is deeply rooted in community. Much of it is produced in small, village-based sugar mills across Patnongon, Culasi, and Laua-an, the latter often regarded as the muscovado capital of the province.
Rich in molasses and full of character, muscovado isn’t just a sweetener. It’s a product of generations of craftsmanship, local knowledge, and the hands of communities who continue to keep this tradition alive.
At Side Quest: Make Your Own Merienda, we’ll be using muscovado from Antique as one of the ingredients in our suman.
