Meal prepping for dogs honestly doesn’t take as long as people think 🤔

I spend about 3 minutes making 2–3 bowls in advance. The base is always the same: beetroot powder, blue spirulina, and goat milk mixed together and poured into the bowl.

Then I stick them in the freezer for at least 30 minutes and forget about them. Sometimes I would make slow feeders and licky mats at the same time, that’s the nice thing about Mars slow feeders being freezer safe and stackable.

When it’s time to feed, all I do is add their main food and something crunchy on top: salmon skin, cod skin, rabbit ears, whatever I’ve got on hand.

That’s it.

The nice thing is I can prep a few bowls at once, which means on busy days I still have something ready to go, and if I’m filming content I’m not starting from scratch every single time.

I still remember the time our dog ate a grape. Someone dropped it on the floor, and my soul left my body. It was Christmas, not Halloween, which is potentially worse? We rushed him to the emergency vet, and I remember a vet telling me that we had to leave him overnight for observation, and it’s possible to take two to three nights to make sure. The odd thing with grapes is that some dogs will be totally fine. But others would have kidney failure, and you only find out if your dog is lucky when it’s too late. A big lab vs small grape. The size doesn’t actually matter; even small amounts can cause huge damage. We didn’t know what to do.

This was our previous dog, who has been anxious and lived most of his life in a big crate. We have just flown him to the UK, and a lot was changing for him. He has already been so stressed, and we really didn’t want to leave him alone for a few days as I wasn’t sure this was worth the anxiety he would have had.

We took the risk. The vet blamed us and said that responsible owners would leave him here. I didn’t sleep that night and watched him tirelessly.

I was debating in my head whether we made the right decision. I was thinking about the unfortunate fact of how expensive that would be (that vet charges were over the roof). But there is no money in the world that’s worth risking your baby 🐶

The morning came. And then another. One more. He was completely fine. We got lucky.

That day, we learned two lessons that stay with us years after the incident:

1. No grapes allowed in our house 🍇
2. Get the biggest insurance cover available because it’s not worth the risk 💸

Freeze your dog’s regular meal in a Mars Slow Feeder and make that his default meal delivery method.
