The Kids Are Alright: They Always Were 🌀🌟♥️
Tapestry + cards
Displaying downstairs at Sevenstore in the Baltic Triangle, Liverpool until late September 2026!

After five incredible months, I’m both beyond excited and also sad to say that my project with @liverpoolbiennial and @sevenstorehq has come to an end!! The final result fuses both the research and development of my cards for creative stimulation and the lovely workshop I held using them to produce vibrant illustrations. Here it is: my tapestry, aptly titled The Kids Are Alright: They Always Were!

This tapestry is my first exploration into fabrics and creating something distinctly Wobble with mixed media. Using different fabrics ranging in transparency and shimmer plus pom-poms, wool, random scrap material, felt and glitter to create a place for the cut out illustration figures and doodles to live and dance, the tapestry feels like it captures the child-like whimsical world of mark and mess making without judgment or critique! Accompanying the tapestry is a small wireframe tree with the cards suspending, and the pack of cards themselves next to it to be picked up and sifted through by visitors. The tree is extremely wobbly lol, but isn’t everything I make!

This project has been absolutely fantastic and I’m still immensely grateful to be selected to produce something so collaborative and experimental. Being able to work with art therapists and artists to develop the cards was wonderful - thank you to all who took time out of your busy schedules to speak with me and answer my many questions about how art can be a therapeutic practice! Thank you again to my amazing friends for joining in the workshop and producing these wonderful works of art that I’ve been able to include here (I used pretty much everything that was made so thank you for the volume too!!) And thank you so much to @katielee.art for your support throughout this project and responding so well to the different hiccups participatory practice has - it’s meant the world!

Enjoy the process vids and pics (especially of Chip trying to figure out wtf I’ve been making hahaha 🐈) and I hope you can see it while it’s up!

Love,

COMMISSIONS 🌟

Hey you! So I’ve heard you’re looking to get a special commission by yours truly to make someone wobbly/your wobbly self’s space a little more vibrant and silly? Well lucky you, I’ve got the commission process guide for working with Wobble Studio laid out right here!

For access reasons, I’ve pulled the text from each slide into individual captions.

Feel free to message for more information and if you’d like to work together! I’m developing my portfolio currently, but my Instagram feed is the best place to get a grasp of my visual style and the mediums I work with.

Let’s get wobbling!

Yours truly,
Chels / Wobs

#emergingartists #illustrator #artistcommission #vibrantart

🌀 Step 1: Brief (s, not boxers teehee!)

Message me on Instagram or email me (email link in bio) with:

🌟 Who/what you’d like depicted
🌟 Any special places or objects
🌟 Whether you’d like it as a digital or physical piece
🌟 Size of final piece (if printed or paper/canvas)
🌟 When you need this by - the rumours are true, I am an ADHD girl and need deadlines so I can manage projects and priorities as best as I can!

Feel free to text, voice message, draw or communicate your idea however works for you! If it doesn’t make sense at first, that’s okay!

🌟 Image: text conversation with example client giving the brief to create a sticker design for their partner’s bike trip (not included in screenshot but the plan was to integrate their Italian heritage by creating a spaghetti valley! 🇮🇹)

🌀 Step 2: Sketch

For digital and physical commissions, I’ll always sketch a copy first unless I’m working from a photo reference or you want it to be a surprise hehe.

This is to make sure I’ve understood the brief and gives room for changes and development if you weren’t sure on the brief in the first place!

🌟 Images: examples of sketch development from brief.

🌀 Step 3: Draw baby draw!

Time to develop! You can make as many amendments as you’d like (within reason hahaha) and however many updates you’d like throughout the process, let me know :)

🌟 Images: image iterations changing certain details following amendment requests!

Final piece on the next slide!

Who the $€%! is Wobble??

Taken me 56 posts to finally introduce myself, but here we go!

For those of you who aren’t my friends following me, my name is Chelsea, I’m 23 born and raised in London but currently doodling and dallying in sunny Liverpool.

When I was 14 years old, two boys behind me asked me “why does your head wobble” referring to my anxious tremor that made its way to my head. For years I’ve thought of that moment, hear them laughing at my shaky anxious self and I’ve spent a long time trying to stop. Trying to look more normal, trying to act less weird and panicky, trying to stop the wobble. But then recently I thought, why would I want to be boring when I could get wobbly?

Wobble Studio has been both my vice and my mad scientist project, as a distraction from destructive coping mechanisms and a way to love the atypical form. I’m inspired by the harsh shapes and awkward physiology of figures in African art and the vibrant, busy colour ways. Wobblies move with the wind, hold each other and wear their vulnerabilities on the sleeve. To wobble is to be the purest form of yourself without hiding the ugly bits, to paint without neatening up the edges. To draw a line and have a bump or four. To be wobbly is to let go!

Perspective is one hell of a thing! 🌎💫

Feeling inspired to reach outside of my own bubble and see what lies afar, both beautiful and horrible. I’m so privileged to see global perspective as something enriching and meaningful to my experience as a human rather than a place of pain and distress where it’s oppressive and agonising.

Let’s keep opening our eyes to more of what the world sees 💗

National Wildlife Day💚🐸🐝🦩

Thank you to our affiliated LCR Together groups, Friends of the Earth and the Green Party this National Wildlife Day. Both groups actively campaign against destructive environmental practices such as oil drilling, deforestation and AI data centre expansions.

Check out https://liverboard.org to see what opportunities there are to get involved & help your local wildlife!

Huge thank you to Liverpool based Artist Chelsea Humado AKA @wobble.studio who produced this piece for National Widlife Day!

Meet @wobble.studio

Wobble Studio is the vice and mad scientist project of multi-disciplinary artist Chelsea Humado, inspired by the shapes and caricatured physiology of bodies in West African art, witty language used in 60s advertising, Pop Art, and free flowing movement.

To Chelsea, to be “Wobbly” is to be the purest form of yourself without hiding the ugly bits.

To be free to make a mark even if it looks odd.

To be Wobbly is to let go!

And to us, to be wobbly is to show us your full range of movement!

And we can’t wait to see what you’re made of

Lots of love,

Meet the artist... Chelsea Humado🌟

Chelsea shares a bit about her practice, along with some moments and outcomes from her time as a Liverpool Biennial x SEVENSTORE bursary artist!

Chelsea ran a workshop inspired by her ‘Wiggly Lines for Wobbly Minds’ card game, a game that gives you abstract phrases, to help you engage with your cultural identity and emotional profile.

The workshops were a place for people to be silly and messy, and create work that doesn’t have an expectation to be perfect. Chelsea has now used the illustrations created by the participants to create a tapestry, and exhibited alongside the ‘Wiggly Lines for Wobbly Minds’.

All three Liverpool Biennial x SEVENSTORE bursary artists are exhibiting downstairs at @sevenstorehq, be sure to go visit their works while you can!
