021 — A BTS look at my first project for @wrytmusic. This was a special one, weaving over a decade of friendship and growth into a project that placed a definitive marker on who we are now.
•
Working on the art direction for this required so much trust, especially when finding the right tone (camp, entendre) for a subject that could easily feel trite and obvious if not handled with care. So many things needed to go well—practically and digitally—to ensure the visual concept felt cohesive and, more importantly, added value to WRYT’s incredible single.
•
I’m incredibly proud of this one and hope you feel things as you listen and watch. DEVIL - a new single by WRYT - is out NOW on all platforms.
•
Footage and stills were captured on the Canon R5C at @audiencestudios (thank you, Mark!) on a simple set we assembled and lit exclusively for this single. All effects were practical including the fake blood, hot sauce and yes, the deviled eggs (thank you, Rachel!)—the true stars of the show.

Footage was then graded in Davinci Resolve and cut to a series of sequences in Final Cut Pro X. Stills were edited and graded to match in Lightroom. by @wole

One thing I enjoy when creating with and for fellow creators is the opportunity to complement their craft with mine. The whole of what me make together isn’t necessarily greater than the sum of its parts (yet!) but the result is always delightful and we each walk away having learned something new.

This was my first time using a new medium format lens (127 mm) and a pearlescent filter for that classic look. Together with a spotlight, lantern and reflectors, we achieved a dreamy set of timeless images.
